I just got home from a trip and when I opened my camera back pack I saw an extra part and kept it in case it was important. It finally dawned on me the extra part was the K5 lens release mount lock button (first picture below.) Then going thru the forum there are several postings on this failure occurring to several K5 owner. I like this DIY using the Lego part but I do not have any kids around anymore.
So I took some shots of the K5 with the missing part. It had the rubber cone on the missing mounting Lock button. I also found a K7 parts diagram that shows a blow out of all the parts. The mounting lock button and the lock button packing (with the rubber cone) appears to be held by a retainer ring or circlip (U2, see diagram below) and I can't find the retainer ring in my camera back pack.
I have not decided which way I should proceed to resolve this issue i.e super glue or requesting for a retainer ring from customer service. But I thought I will post pictures of the failed parts so folks can see what the rubber cone looks like on the mounting lock button. The K7 part A107 (mount lock button), A99 (Lock button packing) and U2 (retainer ring A). For those who want to get the entire K7 parts diagram manual go to the following link.
