What focus issues were actually fixed...

So they added some low light focus help in regular light that much I got from all the hype. But what about the too large focus spots. Will my new K-5 IIs focus great in low light but still be hitting anything in the area? Does the camera focus better in different lighting than the K-5? Does it focus faster? Anyone have the particulars on any of the other issues?

its not just the -3ev
they improved the af microlens optics this should improve the accuracy in various lighting conditions.
and they also support f/2.8, previously it was only f/5.6
this means that the af couple distance is longer and that adds to the accuracy when you use f/2.8 or faster lenses...
so the af will be significantly better, i didnt notice anything about improving on the large focus spots though...

Not wanting to sound dumb but I do not follow f2.8 part. It seems to me that it always could focus at f2.8 but maybe not at 5.6. Am I not seeing this correctly. Also is that not what lets it focus in lower light?

when the af is designed for f/5.6 you can focus with every lens as long as the lens wide open is f/5.6 or faster...
if you had a telephoto which is f/8 wide open you cant get the focus system to work
but having only an f/5.6 af system compromizes the accuracy needed for lenses with shallower dof (usually faster than f/2.8)
so they put an f/2.8 module which is used only when the lens is f/2.8 or faster and that makes the af with these kind of lenses much more accurate

Thanks that is a bit clearer. I guess the proof of the pudding is in the tasting. We will see when they hit the streets. Thanks, again Dave

My Sigma 50 F1.4 can focus on my k-x (which most likely has F5.6 sensors), but it takes a bit of work to make it confirm focus between two relatively close objects. So the F5.6 sensor is good enough to go from completely OOF to in focus. It is not good enough, however, to go from slightly OOF to in focus on fast lenses (F1.7 and faster).

Thanks, that adds a little more clarity too the subject. Sounds like a worth while addition.
