Seeing how we react when facing the imminent release of the new cameras. It's a funny situation, because they most likely do know more than they´re telling us, but are not allowed to tell.

Yeah, we do get whipped up about new toys - But I'm not sure what they could know and be withholding.
I think it is what it is - simply a delay (slow boat from China?).
After all, it's in their interest to move the merchandise out as quickly as possible...

I just spoke with someone from Adorama about my k5II order. They now say they might not receive the cameras from Pentax until the end of the month

Would be nice to get some indication of reasons for delay. I typically wait til the kinks are worked out in the field by the early adopters before buying a new release, but jumped on this one because its based on an existing platform and I've got a travel shoot coming up early next month that I would love to have this along on. If the delay is til the end of the month or later, that would have me suspect it might be due to manufacturing problems with the gapless LCD or the new autofocus sensor, since most of the other parts and related manufacturing tools are presumably tested and in place from the K5. If that's the case, I would probably cancel the preorder and wait til there's a little more beta testing in the field before grabbing my K-5ii. If its just the proverbial slow boat, that's another matter and much less concerning to me.

Well K-7 and K-5 where also a little late, so it is not new for Pentax to be optimistic about the finetuning process before the release and then don't get the deadline.

A slow boat so close to the due date would delay imports to one country. This delay appears to be worldwide. I guess it's possible that the slow boat happened weeks ago getting parts *into* the factory rather than shipping completed cameras out.

In case folks haven't noticed, Japanese companise are not the flavour of the month in China, and most of the electronic components are sourced from China these days. That's the most likely cause of delays. You can thank the disagreement over the Senkaku/Diaoyu islands, most likely.

True enough, and I surely hope that over-optimism is the only reason for the delay. But I would assume launch date projections might be handled differently now that Ricoh has control over the operation, and that less fine-tuning was required on a product refresh/update as opposed to an entirely new product (K7) or major product overhaul (K5) ... so a significant delay would still leave me somewhat concerned about my decision to preorder.

Hadn't considered that, and does sorta make sense ... wonder if there's a pattern of new product delays for other Japanese companies as well.

Maybe settle down and read the manual for a while will help with the wait?

Good find. This still isn't up on the Usa site. This should keep me busy for a couple hours.

Is there mention of the f/5.6 sensitive AF sensor in the original k5 manual?
