Pentaxian for one day

Hi guys,

I enjoy the forum very much and have learned quite a bit here.
I have a Nikon D40 and thought it's high time to upgrade.
After careful consideration and some time lurking on forums,
I ordered the K5. I shot it for 1 day and can frankly see what the fuss is about.
I guess you all know that.
Unfortunately, the sensor is stained at several places.
I was surprised, as the camera was made in June 2012.
Anyhow, she's all packed now and ready to go back to amazon (for a refund).
It was good while it lasted.

I think pentax may have lost one client here.
Don't really have the time to do their quality control.
It's sad 'cause I really wanted to be a pentaxian.
Maybe I will some day, but not today...

Being a Pentaxian isn't about giving up that easily. Good luck with whatever camera you choose.

Are you sure it wasn't just dust or dirt?

Sensor stains in a body of that period are so rare as to not be reported, as you can tell just by browsing the serial number database in PF.

Yes, I am sure! I've seen enough of them on the forum to be able to recognize them!
I read they are rare as well, that's why I took the plunge.
And here they are.
It's disappointing, as also I thought they had dealt with this by now...

Maybe you're right!
I haven't given up on Pentax, but definitely on the K5.
I haven't heard about a camera with so many potential issues (FF, BF, low light focusing, stains when new, stains showing up later etc).
Though I'm sure it's great, if you get a good one.

Cheers

A Pentax camera buyer is not necessarily a Pentaxian...

If you believe everything you read online, every camera is a time-bomb just waiting to go off. Meanwhile, Pentax DSLRs receive the highest customer satisfaction ratings, according to a 2012 global survey of camera owners by JD Power... so Nikon, Canon and other brands must have issues too.

The whiners, the nitpickers, constant parade of every problem known to man being attributed to Pentax cameras that goes on on this forum, rears it's ugly head once again. Those who take complaints, some of which are legitimate, and go on and on about them year after year, thread after thread... hey, look, you've accomplish what you wanted. Cost Pentax a customer.

So what is the good of letting the blow hards go on and on with out of date and irrelevant information? Where is the good that comes from this? We don't even know if this guy has a sensor stain, we suspect he doesn't, but we're never going to find out because he has "sensor stain" so engraved in his head that he assumes that's his problem and doesn't even bother to find out if he does... how does that help? This guy was obviously on the fence about Pentax, having a problem just leads him to believe all the anti-Pentax hogwash published on this site is true.

So, nay sayers, is this the kind of result you had in mind? Are some of you so bitter all you want to do now is make Pentax pay? Kind of like a divorce? Great work.

Indeed Pentax, but not K5 specifically.
Do you think that a company that cannot solve a known problem for nearly two years can prosper in the long run?
How many people did have a bad experience and decided they had enough?
If I were one of the owners, I would be greatly concerned about where things are going...

Sure, if being a pentaxian means accepting suboptimal quality at a high price.
That I am not.

How do you know they haven't solved it long ago and what you got was old stock? Aren't they using that same sensor in 4 of their current cameras? Heard any outcry about stains in the K-01 or K-30?
