Australian K5 IIs

FWIW Gerry Gibbs Camera House is offering a web purchase price of $1253.18 for the IIs with about $17 delivery, or $10 for pickup at their Perth store. I checked and the camera has a CRK warranty and is not a grey import. They expect a "small number" of IIs deliveries next week. For those interested the URL is:

Pentax K-5 IIs DSLR Body 16.3 MP CMOS Sensor

I pre-orderered mine today!!

Interesting.
Camerastore.com.au also have it for $1249 body only on pre-order for November delivery.

Compare those price to Vanbar's $1,598.99 ... ugh.

I got an email from CRK saying that the K5ii should be available now, but unfortunately wasn't specific about the K5iis. On the other hand - neither was my question at the time. I was seriously considering a preorder with camerastore.com.au as well.

I have ordered mine from camerastore.com.au
They are based in Adelaide, so I might even avoid the delivery charge of $16.00 by picking it up in person ;-)

Thats a relief I'd only seen Vanbar's price until now, a little scary.

That price is less that what we paid for a K-7 this time 3 years ago.

So people can vouch for both those sites? I came across them looking for an au release date and loved the price obviously!

I am confident that camerastore.com.au is absolutely legit. It is a partner company of Diamond Photographics in Rundle Street, Adelaide: one of the oldest and most reputable camera shops in town. I got a phone call today from one of the team to confirm my on-line order; I've never had that level of personal engagement before.

I've not dealt with this outlet before. They have a camera store in Cannington, Perth where I will be collecting my IIs. I sent two emails for confirmation of details and got prompt responses and made one phone call to the Cannington store re my order and that was OK as well. They would source through CRK as they confirmed CRK's warranty. Their on line business is based in Sydney. Any Perth/WA forum members may care to comment on this. I am confident about the order.

I just pre-ordered a K-5iis from Camerastore.com.au - I bought my K7 there and can vouch for them.

That's interesting Sandy that Diamonds has an affiliated online business. Useful to know.

Ted's will pricematch the grey importers, if you're concerned about domestic warranty and all that. I may get my next through them, since they're a large, reputable chain (even if list prices are obscene).

I'm new here and I plan to buy K-5II, but now K5 with 18-135 lens is very cheap, $1229 from DWI Australia website. Is it worth to pay $300 more for a K-5II? I would appreciate if someone can help me decide...

I'd be interested to know where the K5 is still in stock - most places have sold out. It's still a great camera. The main improvements with the K5II are improved AF in low light and a more easily viewable LCD in bright light conditions. Can I ask how extensive your photography background is? The reason I ask, is that if you're not likely to use many of the advanced features in the K5, you may want to consider the K30. You could get a K30 with a Pentax 18-55 WR lens for $1149. DWI list it body-only for $679. They also list the 18-135 WR Pentax lens for $429. So for $1108 you could get a similar kit to the one you described but using the K30.

According to to Adam's review of the K-5 IIs against the K-5 original. the standard K-5 would seem to be the better deal as it gives the same image quality as the K-5 II (unless you shoot in low light tungsten which appeared to be an issue with the original K-5)
The K-5 IIs on the other hand is a different story

Just a note about DWI. This is a grey market importer to Australia based in HongKonk(i think). CRK doesn't play with any warranty issues you might have. The separate warranty you might get with DWI would require you to send the unit to Hongkong.

DCW in Syd/Mel/Bris currently have the K-5 and 18-135WR for $1259. (Its even cheaper than it's offer for the K-5 18-55 $1349)
This is an Australian retailer with bricks and mortar store with Australian warranty.

many other stores are selling the K-5 18-135 for $1700-$1900 !!

At those prices, I'd take the K-5 + 18-135 deals on offer rather than a K-5 II. The K-5 IIs is something of a step up, but Pentax is not doing lens inclusive deals with it unfortunately.
