Dust Removal System Question

I have a K-10 set to activate the dust removal system on start-up, and you can hear and feel the sensor shake. I have my K-5 set up the same way but don't hear or feel anything. Is that normal for the K-5 or do I have a problem that needs to be checked?

It's normal. K10D is shaking the sensor, but K-5 is using ultrasound.

in other words,
K10 sensor cleaning == almost useless. I wet cleaned my sensor almost quarterly or more often.
K5 sensor cleaning == amazing. I have not cleaned my sensor in nearly two years of owning it.

If you listen closely, you *should* hear a moderately-high pitched whine in the K5 as it starts up or as you manually use the sensor cleaning form the menu. If you truly hear *nothing*, then yes there may be a problem.

Well, it depends on you hearing. The high pitch sensitivity is usually the first to go with age or damage.

But it is audible, and it does work.
Viva la difference.

Thanks all. I'm 50 and according to my wife can't hear anything. then again my mother said the same thing when I was 18. Might be a selective thing.

I have had the same experience with my K200 and K7. Well, except I only use a blower on the K200.

It typically occurs after you suffer middle-aged hair loss:

When you walk into the kitchen and can't find a spoon; it's called Male Pattern BLINDNESS !!
