New Menu item on K-5 II / K-5 IIs

Just noticed that on my K-5 II there is a new option under the AF Settings located in the Rec Mode 1 Menu of my K-5II that is not present on my K-5.

The setting is called Expanded Area AF. Per the manual:

"When [Expanded Area AF] is set to (On) in [AF Settings] of the [Rec. Mode 1] Menu, if your subject briefly moves out from the focus point that was selected when the focus mode was set to AF.C, the camera will continue to focus on your subject based on information from the focus points (back-up focus points) surrounding the selected focus point. The back-up focus points are displayed in pink on the status screen."

Did anyone else notice this? Was this functionality available on the K-5?

It's new to the K-5 II/IIs. It wasn't there in the K-5.
As ogl says, it's the same as on the K-30.
There is some good information here about it:

It's a nice feature to have, though most will just stick to the full 11-point green mode. For action photography, it performed just as well when comparing the two.

Pentax is expert at burying product features and capabilities in their camera manuals, and in their marketing.

Aside from the expanded-area AF, there don't seem to be any other visible software improvements.

I think the big K-5 II news is hardware-related (new AF module, no-AA filter, new LCD screen etc), not software.
