I just realized that must be Jimmy Kerr and the Simple Minds. Glad to know they are still Alive and Kicking.
It is, my work has been used on their facebook page a few times last year.

Hope they at least pay you for the use.

I have a rather large, mainland Europe band bothering me for free, unlimited use of pics I will take of theirs soon, but I don't work for free. If I do, I post them myself. That's my exposure. They're sweetening the pot by offering photo passes, but I already bought a ticket, there's no photo pit, and I'm set. No obligations.

Usually i charge, but Simple Minds are one of my favourite bands and they have been really generous with access and passes in the past and helped my career considerably so they get them for free. They always leave my watermark intact and they always link to my site, which is worth more to me than the couple of pounds i would get for blog use through an agency... Also most of the time i shot the band last year was at festivals that where being paid from other sources.

In the end it all comes down to working relationships and the need to give and take and understanding the value of images depending on usage and what they can get you in e future. I would never shoot a band just for the pleasure of a photo pass, a photo pass is a given to do your job in the first place not as a reward..

I used my K5 for a concert of my daughter's youth choir. It was very dark, lighting was not very powerful. I worked on iso 3200.
The lens is a cheap Tamron 28-75.
you find the pictures here: wigelii.zenfolio.com

The pictures are picked with K5 + DA 55-300 + TC1.4X. Three are shot at FL of 300mm that is equivalent to 630mm FL in 35mm frame format.

Hi all,

Shooting with either the 35mm | 2.4 or the Tamron 90mm | 2.8 Macro.
Done during the soundcheck for the most part.

I received my Pentax 50-135mm | 2.8 the next morning...oh well ...

Great gig by the way, available on video for free here :

New pictures of the Straight Pipes Trio with special guests shot last Friday. All shot wit a K-5 and Pentax FA-50mm f1.4. A few pictures were shot with a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 as well.

Thanks John. I'm getting more and more comfortable in low light. At this venue, the lights were so low I was under exposed almost the whole evening. I took the FA-50mm 1.4 out of the bag almost from the get-go. The Sigma's 17-50mm f2.8 really struggles in this light, so I shot manually and got tired of that pretty early on.

gosh i wish this thread had been around when i first switched to Pentax a few years ago! always feel a bit out of place when I manage to get down near the stage and see all the 'pros' using their Canikons with the *occasional* Sony or Leica.

some superb shots from many forum members but I have to *especially* tip my hat to Sandy, cabstar and Jimbob !!

Just posting links to some recent concerts I've shot with the K5 :-

073112 Metric @ Esplanade - a set on Flickr

112312 Sigur Rós @ Fort Canning Park - a set on Flickr

121312 Sting Back To Bass Tour @ SIS - a set on Flickr

and the first show i've shot with the new k5iis (new af system takes a bit of getting used to, but is definitely better in low-light) :-

021913 Stars @ Kallang Theatre - a set on Flickr

since i'm just shooting as a hobby, i've been trying to play around with the fast primes which are small and smuggler-friendly mainly use the FA31, FA77 or if I'm further back the DA200.

oh and while its a bit tougher to use a manual lens with energetic performers, here's a shot i managed with the A*50mm f1.2 a little while back -

Here are my shots from a recent concert last weeekend, featuring the band Audrey Horne of Norway as the opening act:

DELUGE PHOTO: Interview With Audrey Horne

There's also an interview there.

The other two acts and interviews are lined up.
