Pro photographer, Gary Stafford has been published around the world using a K5 and a Samsung GX20 (Pentax K20D). He has had really great success using both with the DA* 50-135mm and the Tamron 17-50mm, which he just replaced with the DA* 16-50mm.

He's also on flickr

I shoot shows with a K200d and a KX but I will be moving to a K5II soon...hopefully

They are very good! how do you sneak the camera in, or do they let DSLRs in?

At all the venues I've been to they don't even let me in with an Olympus E-PL2.

It's because they see you use Olympus.

If they see you with a Pentax DSLR, they will usually roll out the red carpet for you, including giving you an access-all-areas media pass. Happens to me all the time.

You're lucky! I should find a job like that. hahah.

I just bought a Sony RX100 that I bought mostly to use at concerts. I'm happy with the results.

Hahah. I like Olympus. :P I would like to try Pentax though.

Thank you so much. I was thinking to same about yours. SXSW would be a blast to photograph.

I've been shooting some'live music with my K5 and various lenses.

Home / Albums / Live Music | DiM |C

Im using a custom user mode with evrything on manual and dont go above 800 iso usually. On my custom mode I've disabled all lights and sound of my K5, shoot with spot meter. Center focus or manual focus. Im using tamron 90, pentax 35mm 2.4 or a M50 2.0.

I have used my K5 with both the 31 and 77 mm limited prime lenses with great results at school and professional concerts. The combination of bright spots used in performances and the k5 low light capability work well. I usually shoot in manual and adjust aperature and iso to get a shutter speed that produces clear pictures.
