Great shots!

Excellent sharp shot, especially given all the tech parameters - 200mm, f2.8, 1/125. Also full of colour and life.
Thanks rawr. She's a very engaging performer. I've seen her a couple of times now. The FA* is supposedly designed to be sharpest at 200mm, so it makes a very good mid-distance and portrait lens.

K5 Concert Shots... here's some of mine..

I sold my Canon 5D MKII and switched to the K5 for the smaller size of the camera and the weather sealing. I shoot concerts, sometimes outside concerts and wanted a smaller lighter Bag-O-Gear for concert work. Below are some samples of what I have done with the K5 at concerts.

Lovely shots Jim. Especially the ones of Willie! What lenses are you using for your concert work?

thanks.. I use the DA* 16-50 and DA* 50-135

The 50-135 is quite fast in the AF area but the 16-50 is slow and does not always lock AF where I have the focus point.

k5 with DA* 50-135 & Tamron 70-200

Bit more sedate also, but some "concert-like" shots with k5:

Zenfolio | Christopher Trollen Photography | Eva Longoria - Irvine Auditorium Oct 10 2012

Wow! Great shots!! Incredibly sharp.

BTW, isn't the Canon 5DMkII weather sealed as well, just like the K-5?

No. It has some mild sealing, likely just for some moisture, but that's it. This is where the D800 and 600 exceed, among other places, the Canon.

I still don't know why Canon can't figure out weathersealing on anything but their most expensive model.

They (Canon) have weather sealing rings on some lenses, right? That's probably why I was under the impression the 5D and most bodies were weather sealed. You'd think they would be, at that price. Glad I got a K-5. I spilled a full cup of coffee over it a few days after I bought it. So I can confirm it's at least coffee proof. I can be so clumsy some times.

Yeah, the lenses are sealed, at least some of them, like some L series ones, and Canon will talk about weathersealing and rating of the 5DII and III, but it's really only a mild barrier to small amounts of moisture. In reality, I think this might just amount to a moist surface on a finger or a droplet or something. I've known several people who have had dead 5Ds due to extreme condensation, for instance, in moist environments.

This is where I'd go for Nikon between the two. They're both great camera companies, but I'd more so trust Nikon here. Many pros still use the plastic shields that go from lens to over the body. They are not foolproof, especially for consensation on the inside.

In my case, I'm not using WR lenses, but I try to keep the FA35 covered in bad conditions, to some extent. For concert shooting, I'm often exposed to water spray from the stage, but I don't see viable WR lenses for my usage in Pentax yet. I really hope they come up with a fast 35 that's sealed to complement the DA50 1.4. However, we'll have to wait and see if Sigma's new one will have much in terms of sealing.

Yes i have... and the biggest "issue" i have with pentax k-5 is that it seams to be over sensitive to LED light sources... it over illuminates... strange... other cameras does not... but i have to say... full frame is the way... i also had a Canon 1Ds mk3 and a 5Dmk2 and K-5 is far behind... However.... K-5ii is another story so far im really happy with the performance... autofocus improvements is dramatic for that kind of use. With the Full-frames i got good expoture at ISO 1600-2000 k-5 i had to push 3600-6800 ISO.... and that makes the full frame the winner... Pentax is good, but not as clear as a full frame picture. But... if you compare cost/performance... Pentax shines like a star

Fullframe:

Are you saying that you can shoot at lower iso and get the exposure with full frame? Just curious
