Originally posted by Into The Lens They (Canon) have weather sealing rings on some lenses, right? That's probably why I was under the impression the 5D and most bodies were weather sealed. You'd think they would be, at that price. Glad I got a K-5. I spilled a full cup of coffee over it a few days after I bought it. So I can confirm it's at least coffee proof. I can be so clumsy some times.
Yeah, the lenses are sealed, at least some of them, like some L series ones, and Canon will talk about weathersealing and rating of the 5DII and III, but it's really only a mild barrier to small amounts of moisture. In reality, I think this might just amount to a moist surface on a finger or a droplet or something. I've known several people who have had dead 5Ds due to extreme condensation, for instance, in moist environments.
This is where I'd go for Nikon between the two. They're both great camera companies, but I'd more so trust Nikon here. Many pros still use the plastic shields that go from lens to over the body. They are not foolproof, especially for consensation on the inside.
In my case, I'm not using WR lenses, but I try to keep the FA35 covered in bad conditions, to some extent. For concert shooting, I'm often exposed to water spray from the stage, but I don't see viable WR lenses for my usage in Pentax yet. I really hope they come up with a fast 35 that's sealed to complement the DA50 1.4. However, we'll have to wait and see if Sigma's new one will have much in terms of sealing.
