I had a tough time with Sarah Blasko @ Festival Theatre last night.....
The Blasko concert sounded like a very tough gig Sandy. Good to see you got something good there. Hermitude went off big time. Keep an eye on the crowd at the start of the numbers as they really get into it early each song.

Been shooting concerts since 2007, started with a k100d and worked through to GX20 followed by K-5, now have k-5 mkii but not yet used it for a show.

have shot most major festivals here in the UK including Glastonbury, V Festival, Leeds Festival, T in the Park and Latitude Festival, a rough count says I have shot over 70 festivals now.

these where shot with a mixture of k-5, GX20, Tamron 17-50mm DA* 50-35mm and the Tokina 100-300mm f/4

Thanks for your kind comments, really appreciate it.

I have finally submitted my gig list to my editor after a long winter break,q so will hopefully be shooting some shows soon with the mkii and the 16-50mm. I have used the 16-50mm for club work where it shines with sharpness and typical Pentax colours.

I bought a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8, the one without the OS and it really struggles a lot in low light. Many of my shots end up being blurry. I'm thinking of maybe getting a Pentax DA* 16-50mm instead. I have no problems with my Pentax DA* 50-135mm. But I wonder if a K-5 IIs would help the Sigma instead, with the auto focus improvements in low light and all... What do you guys think?

Bluriness means you need a higher shutter speed and for that, either a wider aperture, higher ISO, or both.

Or underexpose and then expose to the right in post processing.

I finally used my DA* 16-50mm for a pro shoot last week. I shot a business awards banquet for Seattle's most successful business leaders. I used it on my K200D and the focus was amazing. The K200D has never been a low light focuser and wow what a difference. I've heard very really good things about the Sigma too.

I guess I need to make more tests with the Sigma. I haven't used it that much, specially since I got the DA* 50-135mm. I shoot the 50-135mm at the same speed and usually at 3.2 and underexpose too like I did with the Sigma. Pretty much the same setup. It's really the auto focus that struggles in low light with the Sigma. It really doesn't operate as well as the Pentax. I don't have that problem with the Sigma when the light is good. I've come up with some pretty sharp shots in manual focus in low light with the Sigma, so I know it's a good lens. Just not reliable for my liking in low light. I need a K-5 II just to see if it makes a difference.

Glad to hear you like the DA* 16-50mm John. I was going to get one until I read it wasn't very sharp on the edges but since I only shoot people it's not that big of a deal for my style of photography. I really need a sharp lens w/ fast auto focus lens over edge to edge sharpness. I guess I'll eventually end up buying one next year at the Black Friday sale, although they cost a lot less here in Canada when at regular price (a new one costs $989.95 CAD at one of the stores I shop at).

I just realized that must be Jimmy Kerr and the Simple Minds. Glad to know they are still Alive and Kicking.
