K5 firmware update

With the release of the DA 18-270 almost upon us does that mean Pentax will have to release a firmware update .If the do do you think there will be anything other than lens profiles up dated .

Yeah, they're likely going to have to release a new version. And no, probably no other features, though IMO they may as well add the sel area expansion option.

IMO, and from past experience, Pentax releases FW updates as they please and when they feel the time is fit and not for something that actually needs it ! JMO, YMMW.

When the 18-135 appeared,
I asked Pentax if there would be a firmware update
to add its lens correction data to the K-x.
They said no, so I didn't buy that lens.

But do they have to update the firmware?
I don't know, I'm just speculating now but the lens itself could theoretically hold a number of parameters used by the camera for the lens correction algorithms. In that way they could (if they wanted to) test every lens during production and give each a unique set of parameters.

Perhaps someone with a 18-135mm lens could tell us if the in camera lens correction works with that lens?
