pentax 18-135mm wr lens vs sigma 18-125mm dc os hsm lens

Hi,

I am migrating from point and shoot to DSLR and planning to buy a k5.
I don't want to have two many lenses and probably just one all around lens.
Considering pentax 18-135mm Wr lens OR Sigma 18-125mm F3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM.
Appreciate if you can suggest which is good option.

-Last longer without any issues
-Take good pics at almost over the entire range without any PP

I had a Sigma 18-200 DC (original design) and the 18-135wr at the same time, but my DA lens was not a great copy. The 18-200 was a bit better overall, especially above 100mm - but both needed some low-grade PP to sharpen them up. I'd give the bokeh not to the 18-135 though, quite nice! I later had a better copy of the 18-135 but soon after I was stricken with DA-Limited Syndrome

so the 18-135 was sent off. As to longevity I'd expect them both to be similar; the DC motor has a short history yet I have not heard of any failures - and DA*/SDM owners with bad AF demonstrate that people don't take such failures quietly!

The 18-135 has WR, which really needs to be evaluated for your needs too. If you're comparing HSM and DC I don't know which does the job 'best'.

I would do the 18-135 because of the weather sealing alone. Ohh, you can get some very nice pics from it too.

I personally don't think the Sigma 18-125 really has any advantage over the 18-135. It's 339 vs 539, and the price difference is for the WR. If you got the 18-135 with a camera, it drops to equal pricing.

I believe the Sigma suffers from zoom creep unless you lock it at 18mm. That is a severe annoyance to me, it slows you down for snap shots. Build quality of the 18-135 is far superior to any consumer zoom I've ever used, so tight and solid. WR is an obvious difference. Silent auto-focus is a great feature. I like Pentax colour and contrast. Also Sigma lenses have focus and zoom rings that turn the opposite direction to Pentax. If you have other Pentax lenses this may bother you as much as it did me.
