Importing K5ii DNGs into iPhoto

I tried to import DNG files from my new K5ii into iPhoto and get a message that the format is unreadable. I have iPhoto 6 and run OS 10.6.8. I use Photoshop Elements 10 for photo editing and RAW file work.

Importing DNG files from my older K10 works fine.

Any ideas why? Any solutions?

Is it a firmware issue? (The firmware on the K5ii is V1.0 whereas the firmware on the K10 is V1.31)

Most likely iPhoto, seeing that the DNG is from a K5ii.

It depends on how the software implements the DNG support, with DNG the camera profile is inside the DNG file but some software manufactures decide to only use camera profiles they have build.
So iPhoto might be ignoring the build in profile and since he does not have a profile on his own he can not make an image from the information.
That might be the case here.

DNG is a universal format. They should read just fine. What version of iPhoto are you using and do you have the latest RAW compatibility update? There have been 2 updates since the K-5 ii was released and still no K-5 ii PEF compatibility.

Does it have PEF?

And yes DNG is universal by design but... not every software manufacture does it that way, they arent forced by Adobe to do it.

Of course iPhoto has PEF compatibility, just not for the K-5 II or IIS. Apple's implementation of DNG is to provide universal RAW. The only DNGs that I know of that don't work are those created by VueScan. Those I have to process with Raw Photo Processor.

I mean does the K5 mkII actually has PEF, i don't believe so

If that's true about iPhoto then the DNG should simply work... strange.

The K-5 ii has PEF even though the K30 and K-01 don't.

I had a problem with PEF files and Lightroom for the K5iis. Come to find out adobe had to do some updates for the K5ii/iis to be able to read the PEF file. Maybe the same applies here?

Note: Until the LR 4.3 release was available, I changed the format to DNG in the camera, and that worked fine.
