Hello everyone.

These are amazing pictures with the K-5 IIs. My question, as a complete newbie, is whether it would make sense to start out with the IIs vs. II. I'm looking for a camera for the long haul - and it seems the IIs will have me covered for most landscape, portrait, close up photos that I may take.

I've gone through all the reviews and understand the difference in IIs not having the AA filter; I'd start with the kit 18-55mm WR lens; expand from there while controlling LDA. Would this setup be effective for a new comer? Thanks for feedback and the amazing pictures you've posted.
I can think of no other reason besides price not to choose IIs over the II.

I've taken perhaps 60,000 shots with my K-5IIs. I've only seen moire in one of them, and that disappeared when I printed it or downsized it for projection.

I accept that the vast majority of my shots were airshows and motor sports, where moire isn't a problem. But 1000s were studio shots where moire might be expected (including the 1 where I've seen it). So moire (and jaggies) turns out not to be a problem for me in practice.

On the other hand, I appear to be getting sharper images at best with my K-5IIs than my K-5 (which is probably more like the k-5II). In fact, sharper than any I've ever taken before. This is shooting raw with top lenses.

This is a long-winded way of agreeing with you!

WOW, these critters are fast...

One of the best of this type of shot I've ever seen.

The composition, 3D effect and vignette are just sublime.

Thank you...

I've been using the DA*300/4 since 2008 and find pairing it with the K5IIs, plus a fine-tuning of my pp skills, does 'up the ol' game.' PP-wise, I spent less than 3 minutes on the image (which is about average).

Glad that you enjoy it. It was fun to produce.

Cheers... M

Very nice Gian. That's the perspective I was looking for - I don't mind finding/buying some quality lenses(used) to start with, and learning from there. My approach will probably be to start with a nice prime, I've read the article about the 35mm f1.4, learn it, then move on from there.

Thanks
You're welcome!

Do you mean 35 mm f2.4? It's a very nice lens!

As with Michaelina, my DA*300 is pretty well glued to my IIs.

Thanks. This morning was the DA* 60-250 / DA* 16-50 and the mountain shots were DA* 16-50.

OK, Dave, that does it. I was waffling whether to do the Icefields Parkway this fall. Now I must do it after viewing your wonderful shots. Nothing like the Rockies to inspire photography.

Thanks Sinster and Jack. Jack I hear ya I was there a week ago and I want to go back ! I did a fall tour (8 wonderful days) in 2011. Jasper has more colors and wildlife than Banff / Yohoo - but Banff / Yoho has more impressive mountains and lakes I think anyway. Already planing the next trip there

One from the weekend, taken at Allerton Park Horse Trials 2013. I have posted it in the K5lls Sports Images thread, but I thought I would post it here too.
