Some action shots:

X-Air Challenge Costa Rica 2013. Cap Carlos Dardano and Cap Skip Stewart performing. Sigma 150-500 OS HSM

This one was under the rain, ISO 1000 with the Pentax DA* 60-250. Not even a girl with the D3s was out there shooting with me...she took cover. The Pentax might not have the fastest AF, but with the WR you can go get the shot, which is much better than no shot at all!

A cross post from my picture thread but here it is:

I heard about some northern lights a bit west from where I live now and I jumped on my bike and looked for darkness. I ended up on a really muddy and cold field but it was worth it.

Was the IIs in "X" mode and was the flash on or off camera? i haven't tried HSS yet.

See the settings in the dialogue with the pic: M mode, 1/400th, f6.3, ISO 640, flash in PTTLHSS mode at 0EV

Flash was off-camera using a Really Right Stuff flash bracket and a Nissin SC-01 flash cable.

cheers

Thank you! Shooting those elk that day had some good timing for another reason for me also. The K-3 was just starting to ship, and of course I got caught up with the thoughts of a new camera. But, for other reasons, it's just not affordable for me right now. After making those shots, it made up my mind that the K-5IIs is plenty of camera for me for not only the great IQ, but the AF actually locked on through all the brush.

Here is what I was shooting at. I did not move - this pic below is shot @ 60mm while the shot above is @ 250mm.

I'm in the same boat since I'll soon be moving from the not terribly expensive region south of you to insanely expensive Toronto. I'm trying to resist K-3 temptation (and toying with the idea of using my K-5 for a trade-in when the K 5 II s comes down in price).

Don't dream it, do it. You won't be disappointed. However, ask your "significant other" first to avoid eternal celibacy.
