K-5IIs - first impressions

1. AF - no miracles... But at f2.8 - no any misses at all.

a) hunting sometimes with all my lenses in certain condition (mixed light or complex object to focus).
b) accuracy at opened apertures - HIGH (with FF correction of DA40 and FA43). It's the level of my old K200D and higher.
c) shutter - it seems to me - softer, a bit faster and quieter than K-5, well damped.
d) AF point is smaller than in K5. IMO.
e) AF in dark room is good.
f) speed of AF is the same as K-5.

There is some FF with FA43 and DA40 (put -1 correction)

AF is not big leap from K-5's level, but it's simply better.

2. SD card slot - a bit changed - easier to insert in and pull out.

3. All my lenses has very high resolution and sharpness from wide-opened. The corners of FA43 and DA40 are not as good as at K200D.

4. LV is faster than K-5's.

5. The camera strap is the worst strap of Pentax I ever used.

The improved sensitivity of the AF may seem like a detail but it means you can use this camera in normal indoor lighting with great confidence now, and it's not useless even in dimly lit surroundings like what we have outdoors in Finland many hours a day this time of the year. I considered upgrading from the K-5 worthwile since it makes it possible to actually use my fast lenses the way they were intended to be used.

I'm not a sensor specialist by any means, and maybe the sensor is almost identical, but there are changes, as when I debayer the images from my K5IIs I have to use a different algorythim from RGGB (K5) to BGGR. So it's capturing light ever so differently. There are afew other non mentioned improvments, like the SD card door and pulling out cards are much easier now, I find live view focusing faster. I swear the shutter button feels different to me, but maybe I've just worn out my K5's shutter button lol.
