Silent FW Upgrade for K-5

On the Japanese Pentax site you'll find a silently updated K-5 FW:

Latest K-5 Firmware Update : Software Downloads | PENTAX RICOH IMAGING

It's a minor update since version goes from 1.13.23.23 to 1.13.23.25

The file attributes like date, time etc. stay the same, but content and checksum are different.

If you try and notice a difference, please report.

And a Happy New Year to you all.

Have you tried to upgrade your FW with this file? Does the camera allow it?

...which is rather strange, given that the files' contents are very different.

Ahh, but one doesn't necessarily know if something is broken, until an improvement is introduced and highlights a previous deficiency.

FW 1.13 silent update

I just updated (from the first released version of 1.13, to the new silent release referred to above. The camera allowed it (the upgrade screen simply read from 1.13 to 1.13), and everything seems to be working fine.

I just ran some tests on the old tilt flash overexposure issue, and unfortunately the FW update has not corrected it. Using my K-5/AF540FGZ on a tripod focused at a relatively neutral scene, I get perfect exposure with direct flash, and 1-2 stops overexposure the moment the flash is tilted in any direction. Unfortunately this behavior is exactly the same with my new K-5 iis. Interestingly, I have noticed that the overexposure is triggered at the same moment that the tilt icon appears on the flash rear LCD screen. It is possible to tilt the flash a little way before the icon is activated, and the exposure remains fine. Just a tiny bit more tilt, activating the screen icon, is then coupled to the overexposure.

I updated it also, and the camera performs just as before - no changes AFAIC.
