K-5 IIs + DAL kit lens: not a great pair?

Lately I've been shooting a lot with my K-5 IIs.. Tried using my other lenses too. One sad thing I discovered though, was that when I use my K-x's DA L kit lens on it, the photos seem a bit lacking. Well it sure does put in a lot more detail than the K-x, but it's just.. Not as refined as I expect it to be.

On the other hand when I mount the FA77, DA35, or DA55-300 for example, the images look fine and really amazing. Am I using the kit lens incorrectly? Even at f8 the photos don't look the way they did with the K-x. Will post samples later.

The kit lens isn't stellar. And you certainly won't be able to take advantage of the 's' when using it

DAL 18-55mm? What do you expect from a $60 lens that's thrown in to get you started? The K-5IIs will quickly reveal the shortcomings of cheap glass.

Well-said. Yeah, the DAL kit bogs down the "s" in the name.

Already ordered a DA*50-135 and a Tamron 17-50. Too bad I don't have enough dough for the 16-50. I guess the decision for those two was right... hopefully they'll come first week of January.

well creampuff, I never guessed I'd reach the DAL kit's limit this quick.

Not the best lens there is for sure, but it can provide decent results when used within its limitations. It could be that the K-5 IIs exposes it as the cheap lens it is even at f/8, but for me it has worked out pretty well on the lesser bodies I'm using (top on K-01, bottom on K-x).
