Wow Vincent, you keep pushing those metering limits!
And you still get the shots. Great work.

Thanks rawr - always great to hear from you.

You know the old saying
familiarity breeds...
more
....confidence!

I am just more and more willing to try things out - rather than thinking/assuming "it won't work" -
the K-x and now K-5 prove (to my chagrin) that mostly the shots are possible without too much fuss.

Luckily for me I had that early "problem" of finding the K-5 didn't seem to meter as low as the K-x stopping at 1/8sec lowest limit for my settings
whereas the K-x with same setting was getting 1/4sec - fellow posters helped me discover it was a mere difference between the lowest limits in the different metering patterns
(please see: K-5 lowest metering limit? ( 1 2) ).

That's when I discovered (embarrassingly) that exposure comps still worked even below the metering limit - K-5 (and K-x) would set exposure comp from whatever it is at the lowest limit -
so my exposures pass the lowest limits have become better with the K-5 because of that gained knowledge (the K-x can do the same - it's just that I never realized it nor had the dire need).
hence "my pièce de résistance of the night" shot.....

Thanks,

a fool's errand for April Fool's?

Last Thursday was the last gig for the band/collaborative Pure Soundz at the dark jazz venue -

EXIF attached

Really like this shot -

EXIF attached.
metering segments -

yes, I focus on the bass strings - see how much brighter it is at the center of the frame?

It has always fascinated me how photos can just make out the eye lashes in the shadows -
for this shot I processed so that they are barely visible.

EXIF attached -
I have a similar shot of him earlier - I like both.

During the break they play outside -

EXIF attached -
it is actually brighter out here by street lighting than it is inside the club.

They continue to play off stage and are finding darker places!

phone in accompaniment?

parting shot -

next week there will be a new resident band,
the leader played frequently with Pure Soundz.....
so it's not my last gig.....

OK you can stop holding your breaths
(who speaks with a lisp?)
darker than usual

so obviously lots of off stage playing.....

that blue light is from a laptop screen - he's playing percussion from samples
very impressive/effective too. (EXIF attached)

that's normal night street lighting out of the window -
looks like bright daylight - in comparison with the inside! (EXIF attached)

Put a little...

P Funk in your life.....
George Clinton (yes, it really is him...)

earlier same day/venue

called Red Light Cafe for a reason

red and amber gel tungsten lighting -
using tungsten WB helps - but still needed WB correction PP.

same venue main act -

difficult shot - not because of the lighting -
but just being able to get the angle -

so....
low light doesn't seem that difficult

but not easy...
