Sad sad day....

I was getting my camera ready to do some bird hunting last night; when, me being all thumbs, drops it onto one of my chair legs.
It landed directly onto the lcd screen

I'm within my original warranty, but that's not going to be covered.
Is there anyone who can testify to a complete lcd replacement cost (not just the glass)?

Oh, man! Sorry to hear that. I have no idea what an LCD replacement would cost, but you might be better off looking for a nice new or used K5. Hopefully you have a backup to tide you over? Good luck!

Oh man, you're making me cry here dude. We dropped a K-x while ago and had to scrap it, the repair was more than the second hand price, and we got another 18-55 kits lens for our money. (I now have 3). But maybe your repair will be cheaper. I guess you don't know until you send it in.

This happened just a couple days after I rejected 3 different wedding offers. Reason I rejected....wasn't comfortable because I have no backup *tear*
(well, other than my wg2....)

Looks like my macbook fund is gonna be dry :-(

Hmmm...

If I had 3 gigs lined up I'd take a loan, buy a new body and keep my name out there.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Sorry to hear A quick search on ebay shows the screens for ~$45 and the replacement glass at about $5 but I'd have no idea for how to go about taking the camera apart.

Sometimes I ask myself why I treat my camera with such kid gloves... this renews my reason why I need to go slow and pay attention. Sorry for your mishap. Good luck.

Very sorry to hear about your K-5. SteveM has a great suggestion, if the camera is still taking pictures and is otherwise is working order. I seem to recall a YouTube about disassembly of the K-5 but can't access it because our firewall will not allow YouTube access.

I might try the repairs myself, my fear is the repair cost becoming more than a used body.
I didn't turn down the gigs only for that, but it was one of the main factors. I'm just a casual enthusiast, don't want the liability of a solo wedding shoot.
Thanks for the suggestions, I might just shoot "film style" for a while :-)

Ouch! Sorry about that!

I've had a good experience with these folks; give them a call:
[url=http://www.unitedcamera.com]

Their website estimator shows $144.00for an LCD screen repair....

Before I made the decision to buy a K-5, I rented one. I'd strongly encourage you to look into that, especially if you have some potential paying work.

I'm a newbie to these forums, so forgive me if I'm breaking the rules by including a link. But, if it's cool, here's who I rented from. Inexpensive and painless:
Pentax K-5 SLR Digital Camera

Hope you can ultimately get it fixed -- for a good price!
