Image size ...

Hé I am in deep trouble I would like to now why from 1 picture to an other the size differ in my case from 1,4 MB to 10 MB both the same image size (pixels), same DPI, both JPG one from a Sony the other from a Pentax, both compressed to JPG white the same software, thx to replay

What cameras? What size is the sensor on those cameras? What is the quality of those JPGs?

You can have a 16mp P&S and a 16mp DSLR and have a very wide difference in the file size. Give us a little mroe info to go on and we may be able to help you.

Depends on what is on the photo.
If you have photo if 1 white evenly lit wall or complex one with a tree full in the frame with all the branches, there is a big differnce between the two.

DPI does not matter but is the compression level also the same?

Because JPEGs are compressed, the filesize depends on how much detail is in the photo. For example a 16mp shot of the moon may be under 1Mb because there are very few distinct colors in the image compared to everyday photos. This also applies to other file formats, though formats such as RAW files implement lossless compression and may not be that much smaller because they keep every distinct color value that was originally recorded.
