K5 + DA* 300mm lens

I am thinking of purchasing a DA*300mm F4 lens to use with my K5. I also have a Teleplus PzAF 1.7X which I would like to use with this combination particularly for bird photography, so this would give me the equivalent of about 510mm F6.8. A couple of questions for those with experience with this combination or similar.

Does the Teleplus work well with this lens without any shortcomings?
Has anyone had experience using this combination, particularly in regard to autofocus speed for taking bird shots?
Does the quick-shift ability to overide the autofocus rapidly to manual work well in this application ?

Thanks,

Andrew

i got both and think they are a great combo...you will easily get comfortable with the process and in many cases it actually can focus faster because you get it there when you do the initial manual focus..i have tons of pictures that i took with both..here's one i took with both...i blew me away because the bokeh was still there...amy

The combination of the K-5 and DA*300 is wonderful, really excellent IQ that will take to cropping well.
Adding the Kenko 1.5 will get you a little closer and IQ stays very good.
The biggest frustration is that AF will suffer some, at least in my case it would take a few tries before the combo might lock correct AF.
Quick shift works the same to override focus.

Edit: My Kenko is 1.5 not 1.7 sorry.

larry i never had much success with the tamron 1.4 adapter which i suspect to be comparable to the kenko...don't know why it would work on other lens but not the 300...maybe i didn't spend enough time with it..been awhile but it could have been the slow focus...the afa1.7 worked beautifully though

The Kenko 1.5 worked fine on screw drive lenses, not so well on SDM or HSM even though it has the contacts.

The only 1.7x TC adapter I was aware of is the Pentax, but on further search there appears to have been a 1.7pzAF sold under the Promaster name.
I have not info on how it performs.

Since I rarely used the Kenko 1.5 I sold it when I started using the Q as a 5.5x TC

I used that Kenko 1.5x on my DA*60-250mm and I found that very slow in focussing, but then again, that lens was a little slower then DA*300mm (If I remember correct).
