actually not. if they follow any standard on software development, then the regression testing can be extensive even for a simple change, however, many of these perceived or theoretical "bugs" are almost impossible to replicate, and therefore the testing to validate that the bug has been fixed can be very expensive lengthy and labor intensive, for testing.

That's partly what I meant, to avoid the complicated tests they do as little as possible.
I have been a software developer and if the code change was small enough and the change only affected bla. bla. you could get away with only testing that part of the code. As you say a complete test would take lots of time, and it was really boring too after a couple of times.

I did a simple test of low light AF before and after update. Aimed at a large dark picture on the wall from a tripod in a dimly lit room, AF did not turn on the assist light and front focused slightly (about 10 pictures with refocus between, ) . Updated and tried again, if anything it got worse, more front focus and not one perfect hit. (Lens was a 35 limited)

Now this was not a big test, and most probably they haven't changed anything regarding the phase detect AF, but one thing is sure though, it hasn't improved.

That's weird. I have no focusing issues with my Tamron 70-200 nor the Sigma 18-50 I just purchased. Perhaps I should not apply the update!

Maybe the update is applying an offset. After reading some folk's post about AF front focusing a bit on dim tungsten light...I found out it's true, although it's very slight and only visible in ultra thin DOF cases (like a 50 1.4). This is with version 1.13.

By the way, is there any way to downgrade the firmware?

Standard advice used to be to do a reset after an upgrade. Perhaps this would push the offset to a new zero point. Wouldn't hurt.

Since I don't ever intend to get the lens mentioned, I'll stick with 1.13.

I'm still on version 1.01 and am enjoying every minute using this camera. I'm not sure if its really necessary to upgrade at all for me anyway.

your kidding !!!

1.01 is the base produciton FW from 2010 (v1 had hard lock issues), there are some major bug fixes (low light AF etc) and major feature changes missing.

with your FW the camera will lock up when the battery is under load , not focus correctly below 2ev etc etc

Hi there,
I come from the pentaxeros.com spanish forum.

People testing there provide this feedback...
1. Apparent, but subjective, AF general improvement
2. Changes in LV mode. Mirror doesn't unnecessarily flips now when shooting. Faster and apparent better AF.
3. Apparent improvement in exposure measurement. Less overexposing in auto modes

Are you experiencing the same?

Rgds,
Pedro

My short practical test suggests something like this might have happened. I have the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 HSM lens and have been planning to ship it to be adjusted because the AF tuning within available range would not make it focus perfectly. But now at FW 1.14 my initial tests suggest some -5 might be enough. But take this with many grains of salt...
