Sigma 10-20mm or 8-16mm?

Anyone have any info on these two lenses?. I can't seem to make up my mind. I have the Pentax 15mm Limited but kinda wanted something a bit wider. I know the 15mm is sharp but on a K5 ApS censor its still only about 23mm?. I see reviews saying the 8-16mm doesn't really give any fish eye effect and then I hear the older 10-20mm F4.5 is sharper than the 10-20mm F3.5. I am maiming going to use it for landscapes and maybe a few pictures of interior work when I sell my house or condo. I was thinking go also getting a Sigma 24-70mm f2.8. Any suggestions would be great as I am a amateur.

Looked at them both and the 8-16 was far superior optically. Between 16 and 24 is still quite a gap but I'd go with the 8-16.

I have no experience with the two lens you asked about, but will comment on the Sigma 24-70. I had the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 Macro version.
I used this lens with a Canon 350XT and Canon 5D. While it took very good pictures, I never liked the clutch type switch to change from auto and manual use. After about five or seven years of use, the rear barrel started cracking and breaking away from the lens mount. I sent it to Sigma for repair which they were able to do at a very reasonable price and the lens looked just like new when I got it back. They even fixed a slight front focus problem it always had.. On the defense of the lens, I do carry my camera gear around on the back of a motorcycle, combining two of my hobbies.

I have the older F4.5 Sigma 10-20. Great lens. Sharp corner to corner. Love that thing.

Just be careful when you are getting the sigma 8-16mm f/4.5.- 5.6 as there can be sample variations that can serious impact on image quality. But if you find a good copy of the lens the Sigma 8-16mm can easily beat the DA15mm f/4 in terms of across the frame resolving power. Though the DA15mm beats the sigma lens hands down when it comes to flare tolerance.

I had the 10-20, it was great, I did opt to get the 8-16 just for the absolute exteme's its capable of, I also have the very first 12-24, and must admit I perfer what it does over either the 10-20 or the 8-16.

I think you should buy the 8-16 which is far better.

Far better? If it can't take screw on filters, I'm not sure I'd say far better.

I disagree... I don't like polarizing filters on anything wider than ~20mm. A neutral density would be nice of course but I'd rather spend time stitching or fill-lighting and have the better lens.

That is a matter of personal taste, not an objective statement on the quality of a lens. Some people like to be able to use ND filters to achieve longer exposure times than is ordinarily possible by merely stopping down.

Of course it's my opinion. If it was trying to give only the facts I wouldn't have said 'I don't like', I would've said 'makes worse pictures'.

An objective statement - you can use filters on the 8-16 lens at 15mm. You can't use them at the wider-angle scale, sure.

Interesting reply. I was referring to the use of ND filters which I use very often with my wide angle lenses. To each their own, I suppose. I will stick with the 10-20 for this as it is "far better" for my purposes.

Don't know if you realize that a polarizer can be used for much more than just skies. Go into a forest and watch the leaves get more green by cutting the reflections. Try it.

I was quite aware. You can also use it for water too if you like. And a myriad of other things.

I prefer the better resolving power and 8mm , myself.
