I have both the K5 and the 52 AF-1. I find they pair well. I am new to the hot-shoe flash, and as such this is my first one. I have nothing to compare it too, but I am quite happy, especially with the remote flash capabilities!

Hi, i really wonder if you bought the flash? I have found this post Comparison: Metz 52 AF-1 vs. Metz 50 AF-1 review @ PHOTO-TIPS-ONLINE.com and am really impressed with the servo mode - it seems I could use it with the Nikon system as a slave

Cheers

Hi, have you tried the learing servo mode with different brand flash as a master?

Cheers

No I haven't tried that. I only have the one flash... And due to budgetary constraints that's likely to stay that way for a while.

Hi guys,

So, at the end of the day I decided to buy the 52 AF-1 and soon will be able to say a few words. At the moment the flash seems to be well build and the touch screen is just a different experience, but I like it. Cheers.

K5 and 58 AF2

I have a K5 and both the Metz 58 af2 and the Pentax 540. I struggled with the 540 while I learned to work with flash and finally switched to the Metz when I needed faster response time with a battery pack. There is no comparison. The Metz is simply a better product in terms of outcomes and build quality.

I also have a K-5 and both Pentax AF540 & Metz 58 flashes. I agree about the poor build quality of the AF 540. Mine is now more or less unusable owing to the flimsy battery door cover having broken...

First impression with 52 AF-1

Right, my first quick review after a short time spent with the flash.
My comments:

On the camera: In a room having an object in somewhere the middle the pictures were very good (right exposure) when the flash was bounced either from the ceiling or walls. The only time when I had to adjust the EV was when the flash was direct to the object. I think it is due to fact the flash is very powerfull

Off the camera - Slave mode: flash 45deg away from the camera, around 1.5m away from the object. After a few trials I have managed to set it up and then even changing the F to silly 16 the exposure was right. The remote slave mode in TTL is briliant (so far). I think I misunderstood the FL (zoom) in the flash as it, perhaps, refers to Full Frame scale thus my 40mm ltd should be 60mm and I think I set 70mm.

The menu is dead easy
When I set up the studio I will show a few pictures,

I have done a quick few photos session just to check the slave TTL mode + on board flash as master or commander. The flash-Metz was about 1.5m away on the left pointed to the ceiling. So far I am a happy bunny
