Dust removal system in K-5

As someone who's only just made the jump from a K20D to K-5 I notice that the pronounced 'rumble' of the dust removal system of the K20D on start up is absent from the K-5, even though I have it enabled. So is there a problem with my shiny new K-5 or does it just use a different, more quiet dust removal technology?

Welcome to the K5! Yes, to answer your question, the K5's dust removal system is many times quieter than earlier cameras. It is nearly silent but does a better job. Enjoy!

The K-5's noise removal is a near inaudible ultrasonic system, compared to the mechanical paint-shaker system of my K-x and K200D. When I first got my K-5, I was almost suspicious about the dust removal system actually working.

One thing I have noticed, curiously enough, is that after I updated to the latest K-5 firmware (v1.14) a few weeks ago, the dust removal became slightly more audible than before. Maybe I am just imagining things, but if you want a bit more audibility to your dust removal, you might like to update to the latest firmware and see if that also works for you.

The gentle purr and vibration that you heard on the K20D is totally missing on the K-5. If you are above 50 and put your ears tight against the LCD you should NOT be able to hear any noise or vibration. However younger people claim to hear the faintest of noise like a mosquito buzzing for a fraction of a second, but no vibration.
Dust removal is Ultrasonic on the K-5.
Some folks hear a slight buzzing / noise when they switch on the K-5 (Dust Removal turned off at start up). This is the the sensor magnetics and the aperture lever getting into action from their "shut" or off mode.
Conclusion: healthy K-5s will not generate any noise, vibration or buzz when the Dust Removal menu is activated, even on repeated tests.

Note:If you are not a pro, use WR Lenses, or are careful in using your K-5, shoot mostly in relatively clean environments, DO NOT invoke Dust Removal on Startup in the Menu. This will shake loose the screws holding the Sensor eventually costing you $ 300 for repairs.
Instead use Dust Removal manually as an when it is necessary.

I miss the dust removal of the K20D, because that actually removed dust.

The new ultra-sonic system on the K-5 (II(s)) is way superior to the old "let's move the sensor a bit" K20D system. You must be confusing yourself.
