When Is Your Pentax Birthday?

I was born on April something 1980 in the dust bowl known as Gila Bend and was laughed at for being a tiny ME Super. Later in life, I transformed into a beautiful LX(I have an uncle who's also an LX, but he's lost for a couple of years now in a place called the "Garage" with a mirror problem from hanging with the slide brothers Koda & Ekta Chrome. I've heard their Japanese cousin is named Velveeta...ooops...Velvia)and now I'm a much-loved K-5 who swings a BIG 10"...lens of my favorite dreams and will transform again...soon.

Update:

I'm a K-3 a similar friend on the way.

I was born a poor ME Super's son in the early 80s, gradually grew into a blue-collar P30T and other film bodies - but I never left my ME Super roots. I've been various digital bodies, and now I'm a happily eccentric K-01.

My father was a 1964 Spotmatic.

I was an unplanned birth in the Autumn (May) of 1992. The borrowed photographic tool <cant remeber the brand> failed whilst taking pictures in the mechanical engineering lab for a thesis project, wasting a whole morning of lab time and results.

After a wild and passionate tryst in a camera store somewhere the eastern suburbs of Sydney that very afternoon a PZ-10 resulted. (student poverty continued)

After a happy (if not wealthy) childhood up to the age of 12 I enjoyed travelling with family and work but then.........

.....Somehow late in 2003, inexplicably i went of the rails as a troubled teenager decended into the seedy underworld of compact digital and super-zoom bridge cameras, spraying my seed indescriminantly from girl to girl oops er ... I mean brand to brand until one day, 6 years later in a "moment of clarity" as alcoholics would describe it , I grew up, maturing to a K-7.

Since 2009 I have been gettin' quite busy, you might say, and fathered many children ...err ...lenses, and adopted a few as well.
I tell them I love them all equally when I tuck them in to bed each night.

Lately I've been feeling that my age was starting to catch up with me so over the recent Christmas period I got a new bionic AA-filterless "heart" installed (K-5IIs)

Now, feeling fresh I'm looking forward to many years of happy shooting...... and maybe just a couple more "children"

I was born a K1000 in November 1987. In the digital era I lost the way and drifted to Kodak and Panasonic point-and-shoots until December 2009 when I was reborn a K-x.

I have been a K-5 for a year now...

All the cameras I wanted in the late '80s early '90s are starting to find their way into my possession...

I was born in 2004 in Phoenix, AZ! Actually that's when I was born again as a *ist DS. Grew shortly thereafter to a K100D. On my ninth birthday I grew into a K-5 IIs. The training wheels are off! In my former life I was a Minolta XD 11 ;-)

I am almost 4 years old. I was born a K200D and grafted a white K-x onto myself last year. I might be slicing off the K-x for a K-30 sometime this year. I was born with an FA 50/1.4, had a sibling FA 35/2 a year later, then those two were later sold off for adoption in favor of their A or DA cousins.

We adopted an M 135/3.5 and an M 85/2 into our family last year and the M 85/2 has become the family favorite. Now we've finally gone multi-racial in our adoption and a Tamron 28-75 will be coming home to us this weekend. There is rumor that the new baby will kick the DA 35/2.4 and A 50/1.7 out the door but the final word on that hasn't been decided.

I was mewling infant when I was a humble Soligor TM in late 1974, but soon underwent a sect change in 1975 when I became a Pentax KM/SMC 55/1.8. Following an unfortunate kidnapping (from a car), I was re-born as a MX/SMCM 50/1.7 in 1977, and grew into happy maturity, where I got a new visual boost: not laser treatment, but a SMCM 50/1.4. Following retirement in 2005 and re-birth as a *ist DS, I then matured as a happy and level-headed K-5, and routinely wear nice new clothes as well as older ones which still fit perfectly. SuperTak 50/1.4 (from my juvenile and Spotty cousin), SMCM 50/1.4 (from my MX days), SMCA 50/1.7 (a cousin from the 'Bay) and SMCA 70-210 + TakA 2x converter; they all get worn regularly.

Sometimes my split personality shows, and I'm a K-5 with SMCM 50/1.4 and a *ist DS with SuperTak 50/1.4, at the same time!

Born an S1a early 80ies, transformed to a Spotmatic, then sprouted an ME Super. Strayed off the straight and narrow in 2003 before being reborn a K-5 in May 2011.

Honestly, I couldn't say exactly. It had to be around 1992-ish, when I went to the Ritz at the mall down in PA and picked up a used K1000. I used that camera for about four years until it seized (in hindsight, it was probably just a bad battery contact) and shelved it.

I graduated to an Olympus digital point and shoot that lasted all of about 6 months before breaking (protip: don't tie camera operations to whether a flimsy plastic door is slid left or right 'cause when that door breaks, the camera is toast). Went a few years without, and picked up a Kodak EasyShare something-or-other, then picked up a Canon Powershot A470 (best camera for the cost I ever had. Seriously. Especially after I was able to hack it with a third party firmware that allowed for RAW and bracketing etc on it). When that eventually went down to sensor issues (and overuse), I grabbed another Kodak. Much less exciting than the first had been.

By this point a combination of wanting something more like my K1000 combined with my wife getting pregnant with my first son led me to picking up a new K-x, and I was Pentax 'reborn' so to speak.

I managed to get a few thousand shots of my son before I eventually managed to kill the K-x by improper lens cap usage (lint gets on lens mount, lens gets mounted, lint gets in guts of camera, camera goes PFFFT). This was right about the time when my wife became unexpectedly pregnant with our second child, so I immediately budgeted 2 grand to get a new camera and a 'nice' lens of some sort for when taxes rolled around again. In the meantime I picked up a Samsung 'WiFi' camera. Great concept, but the IQ was just not there after coming off the K-x.

So I was reborn a third time a few months ago with the K-30 and a Sigma 10-20mm and I've been quite happy since, especially as I can take some really decent photos of the littler guy.

First shot I took with the K-x...

Very first shot with the K-30...

This of course means that as soon as I make plans to buy whatever camera Pentax comes out with to replace the K-5 (or the mythical FF should it come to be), my wife'll wind up pregnant so I have to continue this tradition for a third child. :-/

Came in from the Nikon dark side in the early 80's (from Nikon F3's which filled themselves up with Middle Eastern sand) replaced by Pentax LX's. Used them for years, kept changing for new ones of the same, never let me down, right up until the late 90's when they ceased to be.

Strangely enough I took a quick grab shot today of one of my LX's which I posted for another thread on here.

Switched from analogue to digital with the arrival of the K10D's in 2006, K20D's in 2008, next Pentax upgrade for me will be FF when it comes.

December 1975 as a KX and I'm still functioning today just like I was 38 years ago.

Like Angelina Jolie I have also been on an adoption rampage and now have 12 other K Series film bodies & one Pentax 67 added to my family.

Phil.
