Make K-5 LCD screen look better?

Hi

My K-5 screen is not accurate. It shows too white, like it's over exposed on the light parts. When setting down the brightness helps a little but then it makes everything darker. Anyone understand? Like the dynamic range is super low on the LCD.

One other thing that is annoying is the sharpness of the LCD screen. The picture can look like crap on the LCD but turns out to be really sharp on the computer. My NEX-5n LCD screen shows the image really sharp making it more satisfying using it but in reality both cameras have almost same image quality on the computer. Any fixes for this?

K-5II has a sharper LCD.

For the white parts, do you have it set through the menus to highlight light/dark areas in the picture?

While I don't consider the K-5's LCD to be bad by any stretch of the imagination, generally speaking the only true fix is to examine the photo on your computer. You can also use the histogram to check shadows and highlights.

The K-5 II has the same screen, but there's no gap between the glass cover and the screen itself. I guess it might reduce reflections a bit, but when I compared the two side-by-side there wasn't much of a difference.

My K-5 screen is not accurate.
Aside from adjusting the brightness of your screen, you can also adjust the colour of the screen - see page 298 of the K-5 Manual.

K-5 Menu > Setup 2 > LCD Color Tuning > then adjust the colour.

What you would probably appreciate is using one of the aftermarket hand held viewers that you place over the LCD to magnify what you see. Because there is then no daylight and because they magnify you get a very very good idea of what you have shot.
