Well, I generally agree that Kai and crew are obnoxious, but it's nothing to get annoyed about. Their reviews are pure marketing, end of story. And they reach more than the Asian market... the kids at my university watch it and, sadly, pay attention.
But then, I have an admission to make.
About three or so years ago when I was looking for my first camera, just about the first review I saw or read from any source was a random click on DRTV... and they happened to be doing that awful in-camera HDR review where they covered the K-r with astro-turf. At that point I thought Pentax made scuba equipment and that HDR was a document management system. It was pretty clear Kai was a twit and I wasn't watching a real review... but by the end of the video I knew that the Pentax K-r was the only camera in its class that could shoot HDR and did a bucket of other things the other cameras didn't. That made me curious about Pentax. By the end of the evening a bit of research made it clear the Canikon duopoly was just the Ford/Holden of the photography world, and by the end of the week it was obvious to me that for an enthusiast Pentax was the best value kit going (not sure about for professionals, but that's another debate). I purchased a K-x shortly thereafter and here I am.
I went from literally knowing nothing about photography except what I could do with my phone to owning a K-x and being an avowed Pentaxian within a week. And it all started with Kai Wong and probably the silliest camera review they ever did... apart from the one they did for K-01.
This K5IIs review is serious and well balanced by comparison. Cringe worthy or not, that review is likely to be the most effective marketing that Pentax gets all year. So, for this evening... it's "GO LOK" from my corner
.
(as an aside, the Ricoh GR just got a good plug from The Camera Store versus the Nikon Coolpix. Poor old Nikon...)
