Sorry, you (and Adam) are right.

It must have been very late when I posted.

BTW, some people use the lens release button to emulate quick shift. While you are temporarily pressing the lens release button, the AF screw retracts and hence you can change the focus of an AF manually without damaging the camera. After you let go of the lens release button, the camera can AF again (and you must stay clear of the MF ring).

Obviously care must be taken not to unmount the lens while one focuses and has the lens release button pressed.

Disclaimer: I don't use this technique. You may want to check with those who do.
