Thank you Casion - that's what I need to know. If I'm honest, I'm happy with the sharpness of my K-5 photographs once I've run a high pass filter over them: I was just curious as to whether I could get them even sharper using a K-5 IIs. I can perfectly understand how increased sharpness out of the camera would be invaluable in some circumstances, but I'm still not sure those really apply to me.

Let me say it in other way: there is some sensible limit of sharpness and it can be reached with both K-5 II and IIs with minor difference in noise.

I feel that a new camera is coming in the next few months, but it will likely be much more expensive than the II or IIs. That said, it might also be a 24mp, so you might feel that the increase is justified.

Originally, I didn't think that the removal of the filter would be worth an extra $100, but I also didn't think that the II or IIs was worth buying because there were not enough improvements. I started looking at the treads praising the IIs and I came around a few weeks ago. The AF is better than the K5, especially in low light. Additionally, I do notice a huge difference in the sharpness without the AA filter. I shoot weddings and I think the IIs is a great camera. If all I shot were landscapes, I would be kicking myself for not buying it sooner.

Thank you Allison - yes, that's the other factor. Like you, I suspect that a new camera will be along sooner rather than later, but that's the way of the world. Things never stand still. I think I'll give it a month or so and see what happens. The K-5 IIs may come down a bit in price... or we could get some stronger indications about a new camera. 24 MP would be nice... I don't NEED that many, really, but provided DR and IQ are not compromised, I certainly wouldn't turn them down!
