There are menu options to control the image rotation settings. My K10d has them on the last page of the Custom settings menu. One controls whether or not the back LCD rotates the image on preview - I have mine set to off so that the whole image area is used for verticals. I do have to rotate the camera to view portrait format images, but I consider that a small drawback compared to seeing the image twice as big. The other setting controls whether or not the camera saves the rotation information with the image.

When Saving Rotation Info in Custom Menu 4 is set to 'off' the image rotation is not saved when shooting.
When Auto Image Rotation in Playback Menu 1 is set to 'on' an image with rotation file information is automatically rotated during playback.
It would seem that simply setting auto image rotation in Playback Menu 1 to 'off' would therefore allow you to have the image in full view as you want.
For more information, refer to page 219 "Rotating images" and page 210 "Setting the Playback Display Method" of the manual.

Oh, one more thing. If you are viewing these images on the computer, the image viewing software might not read the "rotation info" and so it might display the photo in a wrong orientation. Just fyi, it might be that.

thanks for all the info and yes image rotation does work on my K30 & K-7 but NOT on my K5iis. I read all the instructions & possible causes but to no avail.
I do believe That I am not the only one with that problem on the K5iis . There seem to be quite a few on the forum themselves. So, it has nothing to do with me being from Down-Under.
