For the more skittish birds, the feeder usually draws them to about 15 -20 feet from my blind. Some of these were taken s close as 5 or 6 feet away. The little chickadees, sometimes i just walk right up to them, they are very tame.
But I'd warn you, I've been working on this set up for a while. It takes some messing around with feeder positions and natural looking perches etc. to get it right.

My blind is just off to the left.. you have to be really lucky to be able to set up, so the sun is behind you, you have some shade but not too much, and hopefully enough small branches around for birds to perch on, before they go to the feeders.
