K-5 ii longevity

Hey guys,

Decided to post after roaming these forums for a while. Considering its nearing a year since the initial release, what are the chances we're gonna see an upgrade to the k-5 ii/iis anytime soon? Was waiting to see if they would announce anything at the press conference, but all we got was the Theta. I'm thinking about just biting the bullet and getting the K-5 ii, as it looks like I'll be able to snag a new body for about $760. I've been w/o a camera for little while now since my K-r got destroyed. Go for it? Or wait...? I hate to see something released right after I get the camera, but I think its inevitable.

New stuff is inevitable, right around the corner.

If you can wait, then wait. Either you'll like the new stuff and buy it, or you can probably get the K-5 II on clearance after its successor is named.

A new K5II for $760 or the anticipated replacement for $1300+
I know what I'd do - and get a nice lens as a reward for my frugality.

If you buy the K-5 ii, surely the upgrade will come in October. If you hold off, we'll probably have to wait until 2014. That's the way it always works.

You could always get something cheaper in the meantime, like a used K-01, which can be had for much less than $300. It's different, so it won't be entirely replaced by the new flagship if you choose to buy one when it comes out.

If you're really frugal, waiting is still better. Think how much less the K-5 ii will cost when it's not the flagship anymore?

Good advice. But where are these "much less than $300" K-01s at? On ebay K-01s seem to be running around 400-600.

They pop up in the Marketplace pretty frequently. Here's one for $250:

Another with a DA40 Ltd. for $500, which is a darn good deal, considering the $350 lens attached:

I went ahead and ordered my K-5 II this afternoon, so I expect a new body to be announced 31 days from now when I can't return it but seriously, I know I'll be very happy with this, just wouldn't mind an even lower price.

I ended up pulling the trigger as well. I think my biggest concern was whether or not the next body would have a substantial increase in image quality, but the K-5ii sure beats what I've had before, so it should last me a while!
