* FYI for K-5 new firmware 1.15 *

Just an FYI. When I downloaded the new version 1.15 firmware for the original K-5, my Norton 360 Autoscan identified the file as dangerous and immediately deleted it. The scan is triggering with a WS.Reputation.1 alert. I have no idea what characteristic within the package the software doesn't like but others might have similar problems. On the off chance that the file linked on the front page of Pentax Forums might have been hacked and redirected to something malicious, I went directly to the Pentax Imaging (now Ricoh Imaging) website and got the file directly from there. Same file, same result. By then, I figured the file was ok but just looks bad to my AV software so I did a "Restore" on the deleted file and got it back.

Posted in case anyone else has a similar problem.

Yep. Same thing happened to me. I just turned off Norton for a second or two, saved the file, ran it, and now I'm back in business again.

Well, I also have Symantec at work, and I often have a warning box when I download a firmware. It states the file is almost unkown (seen twice, or so), but at least I have the choice to open it.

Two options. Either open Norton 360, select "Tasks" and then "Security History, which will take you to the action where you can do the following - or - simply download the file again. When the flag comes up saying the file has been deleted, click on the "More Details" link. That will take you to an Info screen. Near the bottom is a "Restore" button. When you restore the file, the software will gripe that it is dangerous but will allow you to restore it to wherever it was downloaded. You can then run it.

My Norton Internet Security 2013 also indicated the K-5 fw update 1.15 as a potential risk and put it in quarantaine. It's decision is based upon a combination of reasons, among them the fact that the file is created recently and not known yet in the Norton community database. I took it out of quarantaine and reported to Symantec that I consider this file to be safe. Within a few days it should be on their "white-list".

Yes, confusion reigns.

I sent a bug report to Pentax-USA about this issue. The response I got this morning was that a new firmware (1.15) for the K-5 has not been released in the US as of this morning but they would send my comments up the line to their corporate folks.

But, from a point of view you're right. Use the "mac" version of the firmware, which is actually a zip file - thus platform independent.

The response I got this morning was that a new firmware (1.15) for the K-5 has not been released in the US as of this morning but they would send my comments up the line to their corporate folks.
