UPDATE: Pentax is apparently replacing mine. WHY IS PENTAX REPLACING MY CAMERA?

I'm going to be cranky if my cam with <300 clicks is replaced with a refurb. Make that REALLY CRANKY.

I'd be shooting pigeons with a garden hose here, but my guess is - that so called "bug" in FW 1.05 triggered another problem with the circuitry. Something must be no quite within the factory specs - hence they're replacing your camera. Lucky you if it's a brand new unit.

I have my doubts it will be a refurb. If it is a refurb you can fight back. I have worked with tech support for a bloody long time to know one thing. If you can't fix it you replace it. But in the end its always the customer who wins. If you really push hard and if you don't like the refurb. Escalate up the management. Do whatever it takes to get what you deserve.

File a complaint with BBB. Every organization has an escalation process. This is ridiculous.

I have such low expectations for Pentax that this situation doesn't surprise me at all.

I ended up buying a never used PZ-1 to get me by. My first full-frame Pentax and I am loving it! The FF viewfinder is to die for.

Low expectations for Pentax service, that is. CRISCAM has done all they can do. They are waiting for Pentax to send out a replacement.

Still no camera... I am officially irked. Make that pissed. "It's coming from Japan" is what I've been told. Waiting for a call back from a higher-up. Expectations are extremely low.

I FINNALY got my replacement K-5IIs. It's good to be back in the digital age. Altho my film experiment proved worthwhile. I'm going to stick with it for portraits.

Did they send you a new or a refurbished unit?

I got a brand new unit which I'm happy with. Having said that, I still give Pentax/CRIS a C- for lousy communication regarding this issue. I had to call at least once/week to get updates, expedited shipping, etc. I really hope I don't need to use Pentax service in the near future.
