Underwater housing - K-5

Does anyone know of a decent underwater housing for the K-5?

My wife and I are going on a cruise and I'd love to take our camera snorkeling with us. I did a search and all the results were outdated, so I figured I would get something up to date.

Thank you!

I'd recommend getting a WG-3 for that purpose if you just expect to be taking snapshots. Much more economical and easier to carry around!

Mark Dimalanta, Chasing Light... , I think has an underwater housing for his K-5 camera.

Also Chris Wilson, TRAVEL 67 – Chris Willson Photography | Photographer and travel writer based in Okinawa, Japan. , does underwater photography and also has a K-5.

Search their blogs, or email them from their blogs to find out what they are using.

No, it's a point-and-shoot. If you want RAW in an underwater body I think you might need something like the Nikon AW1.

Good Evening,

They are available, however pretty expensive. You are looking at least a $1,000 and more - escalating pretty quickly. I think the B&H featured product goes for over $6,000 and change. At least a year or two ago, there was a film maker who was shooting a surf movie with a K5, who was selling their waterproof housing here on the Marketplace. It was quite a movie, but I can't find it now.

Personally, I like Adam's idea on the point & shoot.

I have considered a range of options and for the moment I have the pentax wg3. It hasn't hit the water as yet
An underwater housing for K5 will take up a huge volume as well as cost a small fortune. last time I looked B&H had taken it off their sales.

I have had a canon G10 in an underwater housing. I have had serious grief with two Canon g series cameras. next I tried a small Panasonic and the little swine fogged up in cold water, the GSP wouldn't work etc etc. gave it to one of my kids.

If I am not happy with the pentax GW3 I will consider the nikon V1 with underwater housing - total cost of over $2,000. I think it will take a strobe. It is in between the point and shoot and a dslr. I was not aware of the Nikon AW1 mentioned by Adam and that looks like a much cheaper option and might be what I should go for if I am not happy with the pentax. .

get a good wrist strap when you get your camera B&H has a pentax floating job.

If you are diving it is easy to keep the camera steady. When snorkeling you are being bounced around by the waves. When possible stand to take your photos.

For snorkeling, I don't think you need a full underwater scuba housing. Maybe you can try a DiCAPac. I used one with a point-and-shoot on a recent vacation, and the results were acceptable. I believe they make one that fits dSLR's also, but I have not tried it.
Mine is reasonably well made, but I would be extra cautious trusting my expensive camera in it.
