Many problems or one?

My K-5 seems to have many problems but all or most may be firmware.First noticed a problem this spring when the flash was popped up it shut all functions down including shutter button.Other problems include very poor focusing and tv mode not working.May have cost myself a lot of money by inaction when problem was first noticed when camera was only 6 month's old.Had bought a new home and was moving but had no timeline as to where camera would be sent so neglected to get problem fixed with standard warranty.Bought the extended warranty when the camera was purchased but unsure if it will cover the repair or just the cleaning and minor adjustments.

The Pentax 2 year extended warranty will cover the camera the same as the original 1 year factory warranty. In essence you have 3 years of factory warranty.

Just fill out the form at the criscam site, make a copy of your original receipt and 2 year warranty card to send in with the camera, and send it in following the instructions on the site.

I second what stormtech says, if you are having problems and have the extended warranty by all means send it in to CRIS. You have to sign up for an account on their website but after that you can check the status of the repair right on the web. (I checked daily while my k-5 was in the shop) Just follow the instructions on the web form and send it off, with COPIES of the extended warranty, the receipt for the warranty and the camera receipt. You want to keep the originals in case you need repair again, the extended warranty is not a one time thing and be used again through the warranty period, although the cleaning is only once I think.

Make a detailed list of the problems you are having and steps to duplicate them. Might not matter, but I figure anything I can do to make the techs job easier is a plus. Also ensures they don't miss something you want looked at.

I sent my k-5 in on July 28th and got it back on October 14th. I think it spent maybe 3 days with a status of "in repair" the rest was "on parts hold". Ricoh has not gotten the parts situation sorted out yet, at least as of last month, so repair might take awhile. I am a little disappointed in the time it took to get parts but that is not CRIS's fault. I am 100% satisfied with their work, camera came back like new with all problems fixed.

Good points jatrax. Just to add from my experience, when parts are in stock or no parts are needed, the turn around time was 3 days in house. Another perk is the camera comes back CLEAN!

Thanks for the replies and link as to where to get repair done.Information I gave earlier was a little off, camera was purchased in November and still has a few days left on the original warranty. In moving I have misplaced my warranty cards but do have a copy of the shipping order from Adorama and wonder if it is enough to get the repair done under warranty if I get it shipped soon. This is a copy.

All you need is a copy of your original receipt from Adorama. The warranty starts on the ship date - not the order date. When you pack the camera to ship to CRIS, just include a copy of that receipt along with the packing list the web site instructions have you print out. I would also keep a copy of any receipt you get when you ship it for proof just in case the package takes a week or so to get there. If you use Priority Mail it will take 3 days at most to get there.

If you made an account at adorama when you ordered you can print a copy of your receipt from there.

Send it in. Had a similar problem with my K-5. Popped up the flash, everything else stopped working. The autofocus seemed to go wonky at the same time -- suddenly got severe back/front focus. They replaced the flash unit, re-calibrated everything, good as new. Took a few weeks from CRIS under warranty.

Have been trying for a couple of hours to get registered to send the K-5 to CRIS but can"t complete the form as they want the bill of sale with shipping date which I have but cannot find a place on their online form to put it.

I have always skipped the online form, it is a disaster. (And for non-warranty work, I don't like to pay until they diagnose it.) Make a copy of the receipt, and write a letter explaining the problem, and noting that it is under warranty. Just send it to them, tracked and insured, then after it is delivered wait a couple of days for it to get into the system. Then call and they should be able to give you that number so you can check on it. Usually they'll have to contact you for work approval after they check it out, but for warranty repair they may just do it. They send things back with no warning when they are done (which can be troublesome if you're going out of town or something), so just keep checking so you know when they're finished...

Took the advise, skipped the form and emailed CRIS to see if the receipt would get the warranty. They replied that it would so I got the K-5 in the mail to them today.Going to miss the K-5 even in it's poor state of repair. Will be using my old K-10 until i get it back.Had K-X along with the K-10 when I ordered the K-5 and planned on selling one,got a reasonable offer on the K-X so I let it go but now I wish the K-10 had got sold as I really liked the light weight, fast handling and good results at higher ISO.Think I will check some pawn shops for cheap and workable K-x as it could be month's before the K-5 comes back.
