Use Av mode and set deeper apertures. Also use a tripod when at all possible. Doesn't matter if exposures are long then. Keep ISO at the lowest (100 for the K5?).

Post some examples of what you're not happy with, for any further help.

TAv should be fine (works for me.) Try f2.8, f3.2 or f3.5. that will give you shallow depth-of field & more bokeh.

Try to use a flash, improvise with the diffuser. Use M setting, try to use 1/180s and f13 and ISO 100. You can always fiddle around with the setting and get those which suit you best.

A sample of my macro.

I agree with dadipentak...I use tav as well...tripod...iso 100...f 3.5 or less....manual focus sometimes works better to ensure you focus on the spot you want...you also might want to set the timer or use remote to ensure no shake from the shutter button...also if you use tripod turn off image stabilization

Uh...Steve...your EXIF data is NOT the DFA 100mm f/2.8

144.58 Kb
File Date 2013-11-12 07:28 PM
Camera Make PENTAX Camera Model PENTAX K-5 II s
Date Taken 2013-11-10 12:39 PM
Resolution 1208 x 800 pixels
Flash Used No
Focal Length 70.0mm (35mm equivalent: 105mm)
Exposure Time 1/125s (0.0080)
Aperture F/4.5
ISO Equivalent 100
White Balance Manual
Metering Mode Pattern
Focus Range Distant
Lens ID Smc PENTAX-F 35-70mm F3.5-4.5

I knew *something* was wrong as it's almost impossible to take a bad image with the DFA 100mm f/2.8 WR Macro lens.

Use Av. if there is enough light use F22 or less. F2.8 has no sense at 1:1, the DOF is too shallow, you can try F8 or F5.6 for smooth bokeh...

It's funny when you can look at a Pentax image, and know what to expect from a Pentax lens/camera combination.
It gives new meaning to being a Pentaxian when you can recognize these sort of "finger prints".

Hi Lauren OE and Others,
I did Up LOAD the Wrong Images. They are from Pentax F 35-70mm Marco.
Here are the Images from Pentax DF 100mm F2.8 Marco.
Which position should I use ON left Front Switch for Macro Shotting ?
There are Three Positions.
AF.S, C and MF. MF ( for Manual Focus ? )
Thanks very much for all the helps.

Because the DFA 100mm f/2.8 WR does not have a focus limiter, it's best to use Manual Focus - even though the lens has quick shift.

Why? If you miss focus, the lens will move through it's entire focus range and the bug/flower/whatever will probably change enough for you to loose your focus.

Your images above have lots wrong with them as far as focus, as well as your flash is too bright and it is destroying/blowing out the details.

Use a decent/appropriate depth of field as a first start, and work your flash exposure via the minus exposure compensation for the flash or the generic exposure compensation for the camera.

Tripod is my recommendation, but if you can work your technical factors for a shutter speed of 1/500 or greater, you should be fine too.

The main thing is to get to know the interaction of camera/flash/depth of field and how your lens works around the factors.

I'd suggest that you get an "introduction to digital photography" book, explore the manual in small doses, familiarize yourself with the controls...and shoot a lot. The great thing about digital is that you can see almost immediately how different settings affect the image.
