Upgraded from K5 to 5IIs

My question is about lenses I have need of trying to get the best recommended landscape lens for my K5iis,my Sigma 18-250 is a decent lens but I want to get something better what can Ya'll recommend. My K5iis is on its way and I'am looking forward to better AF and better images with the exclusion on the AA filter. Have any of you made the change I'm making K5 to K5iis, I will keep my K5 as a backup untill I can get a K3 but will wait a year or so for the bugs to be worked out.

I'll assume that 'landscape' means wide sweeping views. Primes would be best, like the DA15 or 21. If the budget is between camera bodies, the DA16-45 is a good option.

The Sigma 17-50mm is really good if you want a zoom, as is the DA 12-24mm. What kind of focal length are you interested in anyway?

You won't get anything out of the 's' in the K-5 IIs if you just stick to the 18-250mm. Primes are generally the way to go, but we need to know what you're interested in

Thank you Adam and Jim in Oregon it sounds like I might for the time being going after the Sigma 17-50 that will be the best fit after just getting the K5iis. I appreciate your help I think for the time being I can use my Older Pentax A 28mm that will work better with my new K5iis or my Pentax 50mm 1.4 manual ?

Bottom line for now guys is if my older Pentax primes will work with my new k5iis and will I get noticeable difference in my images because obviously the AF won't matter.

One of the best lenses on my K5 or K5-IIs is my SMC 55mm f1.8 screw mount lens. I have owned it for over 40 years. My old A* 3000mm F4 also works great. I only have one autofocus lens and that is the 12 - 24mm DA lens that I got when I ordered my K5-IIs earlier this year. Right now my loins are all astir over the K3 and the Sigma 50 - 500mm lens. I just may pull the trigger on them in a month or so.

An economical option if you can find it is Sigma 24-60 f 2.8.

Screw drive
Not weather resistant
Perhaps a bit close at lower end

But

Sharp (i needed in camera adjustment but once thats sorted all good)
Compact for a f 2.8
Fast focus

It's a lot better in low light, and a bit faster in indoor light, so you should notice an improvement.

Hey, Marquis... I just received my Sigma 17-50 from B&H for my K5IIs. I had to wait forever for Sigma to replenish that lens in a Pentax mount but, as indicated by Sigma's Sales Ops Manager, B&H received the most units. Seeing Adam's comment about not getting optimal results out of a K5IIs unless you use Primes is a bit disconcerting considering a Pentax Prime - in the same range as that Sigma - is twice as much money. If you can wait until February (I believe that was the quoted date of release) you could pay $200 more and get the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8. Just a thought.

One thing to add here... I got impatient and ordered a Tamron 17-50 and, was one of the poor unfortunates who received a bad one. It couldn't focus to save its... well, you know and, it had a slight grinding noise when I rotated the zoom ring. I had the focusing adjustment to -10 by the time I finally gave up and sent it back to Amazon. When I received the Sigma, there was no comparison in build quality and, it focuses properly.

Yes SlamDesiAk, The only Tamron lens I have that is or has been good is the newest 70-200 2.8 which I say I really like. I have had problems with others. I do shoot with my Sig 18-250 I like it and 150-500 which I love. I have some old Manual and A manual Pentax glass 50mm 1.4 29mm 2.8 135mm 2.8 I like but just don't often use them. I do a lot of different focal length stuff and like the availabilty of zooms when I need it. For my K5iis I waqnt whatever will work best to take advantage of the upgrades over my K5. I appreciate your input !
