Now i like my K-5 even more

I am attending a photography class right now every tuesday night and i am the only one using Pentax. It is a step 2 class in DSLR-photography so we are all quite used to our cameras.
But looking at the Canon and Nikon people fiddleling with their cameras trying to set the iso, shutter time, and aperture is really fun when they have to go many steps in to their menus. And nothing seems to be obvious.
But with the K-5 and itīs top display everything is so fast and easy to change, and compared to Canon and Nikon i must say that Pentax is number 1 when it comes to easy handling.

I couldn't agree more. I've been setting up an old Canon 20D for my wife's cousin; it was given to her. I'm fairly proficient in electronics and was left scratching my head a few times to change the simplest settings. I feel sorry for her when she starts using it....I won't take my K5 for granted anymore.

In this case, yes. But even the K-30, K-50 and K-500 use the same menus, there's just less features than the K-5.

With my K30 I twiddle a couple of dials for my aperture and shutter speed and press one button and twiddle those same dials to set ISO so your point is?

I too love the Pentax menu system. It is fast and easy and clear cut when you are trying to make changes. Another system I like is on my Fuji X10/X20...it is called the "Q Menu". You hit one button and all the settings appear on the LCD in little boxes and you can change them right there, fast and easy.
Regards!

This is why I really like TAv mode - you never have to take your eye away from the viewfinder.

I think you can learn to deal with any camera, but certainly I am used to Pentax and generally can switch settings in heart beat.

It helps too that a K5 has so many buttons that will change settings so you don't need to go menu diving for settings.

As with anything, reading the manual helps a lot.

Yep, I've seen this over and over. Also, I find that Pentax users tend to simply know more about their camera's settings and menus.

As one who has shot Pentax and presently is a NIkonian using a D7100, I'd say its all relative.

Yes, using a lower end Nikon DX body will leave you having to traverse the menus for settings changes, probably same with lower Rebel bodies......but like the K-5 we know and love, Canon/Nikon "enthusiast" bodies also have the top LCD and ability to make rather intuitive changes "on the fly". It's all about becoming familiar with your gear, and as I believe one poster mentioned.... reading the manual

Even a K100D is simple compared to a Canon 550D Although I guess it's a matter of getting used to. I must admit that the K5 (this might have changed in an earlier version after the K10D) with its different menu structure where you can see all settings of the submenu in one screen was a serious improvement over the K100D and K10D where you still have to scroll down.

I recently bought the k-30 ,, but i agree with you on the top display, i really like to be able to look down at my camera and see the settings. i miss that about the k-30.

Also i prefer Dials, but im old, Even so, to me the Pentax button location and menus were much easier than the Nikon d5200 i tried out.
