Trade up from K-30 to K-5II or IIs

I am considering selling my K-30 to purchase a K-5II, which would cost roughly $300 net to upgrade. The K-5IIS is only $50 more, however. Both are in very limited supply so if I am going to act, now is the time. I would be keeping the 18-135WR and DA35/2.4 lenses.

Seriously, the only things I do not like about the K-30 in comparison are:
  • the grip is a bit cramped, and my finger does not fall naturally on the shutter button - I wish the shitter release was located closer to where the front control dial is.
  • the shutter is noisy
  • small, low capacity battery
That's about it, so maybe not worth $300 to switch. But $350 for the IIs might be worthwhile. I use the camera for family snapshots, travel, and landscapes. I thought about going the micro 4/3 route, but the cost with equivalent lens range and integrated VF is still too high.

Thoughts about the decision between K-30, K-5II, and K-5 IIs?

Nah,but for your purpose, I think you should stick with what you have (though the AF is faster in low light vs the K-30) and just buy some extra battery either the Litts or eneloops.

What I like from the K-30 is that it is small, light and capable at the same time. You can save your money to buy some shiny lenses, fast primes for example.

I absolutely LOVE the image of the K5iis. for $50 more I would go for it. You may notice it only with the DA35/2.4, though.

I don't think I could live withou focus peaking, so that's a deal breaker for me.

I think it's worth $300 or $350 to upgrade to a K-5ii or iis. I am no expert by any means and I haven't been in the DSLR realm for very long, but I started out with a K30 and I upgraded to the K-5ii (Black Friday deal was too good to pass up).

I am happy I made the switch. I liked my K30 but the K-5ii is definitely a quieter camera, the top LCD is great and the battery definitely lasts a lot longer.

It's also nice to be able to add a real grip to the K-5ii. I just picked up a D-BG4 and I really will probably never take it off the camera.

Low light AF

Is the autofocus in low light significantly better on the K-5II Vs K-30?

I tried to take a shot of some family members yesterday and could not get the camera to lock focus and release the shutter. It was kind of embarrassing... The AF assist light was on but I guess that it just takes... a......long...........time. I (and my subjects) need to be patient.

A.o. I own the K-30 and the K-5 IIs. For the more difficult scenery I use the K-5 IIs (had not a single challenge with moiré yet...). The "real-feel" factor is definitely on the pro-side of the K-5 IIs... - that's my very emotional contribution to this thread... ;-)
