battery door latch

Hi I wonder if any one can clear this up for me?

the battery door and turn latch plate on the K5 body appears to be made of metal rather than plastic.

is that the case with the genuine Pentax battery battery grip?

I have a couple of 3rd party ones which have served well enough , not water proof I know, but the one fault is the little latch tag is made of plastic and eventually breaks. you can if you don't use the AA holder swap the bits around so you get more life of it but I was wondering if the genuine article is more robust?

I have to say that after 2 years of hard work this is the only problem I have had with these cheap ones.

My cheap BOWER grip has a metal latch like my K-7. They are the same grip as far as I know.
I'd be very surprised if the genuine Pentax grip didn't also have the metal turn-latch.

Metal, very metal and I've never heard of one failing.

The Pentax grip on my K10D has not failed yet. I bought it at the same time as the camera in November 2007.

The grip I have on my K10D makes it much easier to handle with a heavy lens on it. The smallest finger actually has something to hold onto.

The grip holds a second battery, doubling the battery life of a full charge.

The grip holds an infrared remote and a spare SD card, so they are always with me.

The gip provides a portrait release so that it is much easier to use the camera in portrait mode.

My cheapo grip had the same issue, the latch broke. I got it cheap, and it served me well, so I'm not complaining in the least. After not having one for a month, I couldn't work. I'm now expecting a genuine one in the mail any day now. :-)

I have a Pentax BG-4 battery grip for my K-5 & K-7 ( works for both ) but unfortunately there's not slot for the remote or an extra card..... I wish there was.
I do like having a grip. It makes handling the camera easier and it looks a lot cooler also :

There's also not slot on the K200D grip that can hold a remote or extra cardl

Actually there is a slot for an extra card in the Pentax BG-4. Check the Li-Ion battery tray.

The card and remote go in the battery tray, with the battery.

I see the space for the card now but can't see how the remote I have can fit anywhere in there ??

No, that remote won't fit, but Remote F slides in below the card slot.

No, the one that fits is actually a Pentax product. B&H has them among most other Pentax dealers. Mine came with the grip.
