K5 LCD coating

Is there a darker colored coating on the LCD screen of the K5?
I got one used a couple weeks ago and noticed light scratches on the the screen.
Looking closer it looks like the scratches removed a darker coating.
Anyone shed some light on this?
I wanted to remove the whole LCD cover and replace but didnt know if that was possible.

Is probably an antireflection layer. So don't remove it, even if it looks darker. Not that you can do it, without scratching badly the display.

AFAIK, the plastic cover is not glued to the LCD, but I don't know if is possible to change only the cover. You must talk with someone from a service center.

Get on the Ricoh/Pentax chat line and ask them if there is a kit available.
AFAIK the cover is replaceable as it uses double stick adhesive, but a bad job could let water/dust in.
To maintain the WR properties of the camera I would probably want to send it in and have it done,.

Yes, the LCD cover is attached to the body with double sided tape. I replaced mine a while ago, the local Pentax service center was kind enough to sell me the replacement kit (it contains the cover and the adhesive tape). I did not cost much, about 10 euros.

The difficult part is getting the old cover out without damaging the body. Once the old cover is out, putting the new cover is easy.

Since you purchased it used, someone may have added something extra to it.. a screen protector or something. Mine has one that a previous owner put on it, but it looks fine so I've never bothered trying to remove it.
