Congratulations on the new camera!

Are oversize loads restricted to daylight hours only in America like they are over here?

You truckers ('truckies' over here) do a great job by the way!
Thank you Dieseler!

Some oversize loads are restricted for hours of travel. The rules vary from state to state. Some states it is 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. Other states it is 1/2 hour after sunrise to 1/2 hour before sunset. A couple states it is at sunrise and sunset.

Some loads, super loads, are only allowed to move at night in some areas, again, it varies state to state, and in major metropolitan areas there are special conditions.

Add to that the holiday restrictions, which are almost universal, but some states have weird variances, like no movement after noon on the day before a holiday until sunrise the following Monday.

And when operating an oversize load around Omaha, Nebraska, if there is a college football game happening, no movement is allowed.

Weird.

Very weird.

And the load I am under now, an overlength, I can run 24/7 in most states, because the overall length is under 100 feet and the trailer ( a double drop stretch ) is under 65 feet.

Oh, and go into Canada, and you have to use D panels, a red and white banner with a D in the middle that signifies Dimensional. This is especially important in Quebec, as they do not speak, read or write English there. It is a $500 fine to get caught using an OVERSIZE LOAD banner there rather than a D panel.

Sounds like some of the variations we have between states over here (and the ridiculous fines for petty things e.g. a mis-spelling in the logbook).

Sweet looking office and have fun with that K5IIs.
I saw an Abrams on a trailer once. Had to use my fingers and toes just to start to count the axles.
Ride safe.

At least in WA (Western Australia!! - mustn't confuse our US mates) is so far from anywhere the cross-border anomalies only affect long distance travellers. Here on the Victorian-New South Wales border we have twin cities/towns all along the border. Things like lower speed restrictions on learner drivers in one state but not in the other can be costly for Victorian learners unknowingly speeding in NSW. Then there are all the planning and building regulations that tradies have to cope with, etc etc. There was a joint parliamentary committee trying to sort these things out, but after a few small successes I think they just gave up.

Thank you!

Yes, some of the heavy haul rigs can get crazy with axles. The go up to Michigan and check out the Centipedes. They have weird rules up there because of the spring thaws. I see those trucks and feel sorry for the tire guy and whoever has to pay the tire bill.

Nice set of story photos and helps explain some of the great highway shots you've shown elsewhere - you clearly know the roads well.

One of my more interesting truck stories was getting stuck in traffic on the way back to Maryland because of the Metro - they were hauling new Metro cars on the highway. Took up two lanes of highway - state troopers escorting the convoy and still got to see some idiots trying to pass on the right when an extra lane opened up for a little while. I've also seen video of having to move parts of the Airbus through narrow roads where there clearance from the houses on either side of the road was sometimes less than a few inches. I wish you well.

Started out in St. Joseph, MO this morning, and expect to land somewhere between Buffalo and Fairview, in the Volunteer state this evening.

Each day is an adventure!

I wonder, is it a cultural thing that most trucks are long nosed in the US and flat nosed in Europe? Or is it just that the flat noses require less space?

Nice pictures, btw. As always

It probably has to do with crumple zones, crash ratings & highway safety. Most vehicles made for the American market have areas that are designed to crumple in a crash & absorb the impact.
