Histogram question

When I look at the histogram of an image taken with my new K5II there are spikes on the DNG version's histogram but not on the JPG (**** quality) version's histograms. On my 200D this is not the case - neither have the spikes. Does anyone have an explanation?

What image settings do you have for the in camera Jpegs? You may have saturation toned down and the spike you see in RAW could be a certain color hogging the frame...

The histogram of the DNG version is pulled from the embedded JPG preview, which is so heavily compressed that banding effects occur (just look e.g. at a large patch of sky in the embedded JPG) , which then show up as spikes in the histogram. Nothing to worry about, the DNG data is fine.
