I guess I got lucky with my K20D. It fell out of the truck onto pavement, I guess that's probably at least a 5 foot drop, and all that broke limiting functionality was the focusing screen. I replaced it and the camera still soldiers on to this day, just fine 'n dandy. Now that I got a K5, it'll soldier on as my mom's camera.

I was also quite lucky with a drop of my K5. My shoulder strap was dangling below the camera, and my dog decided to take an interest in what I was doing. She sprung up to check out the camera in my hands, and as she lowered herself back to the ground her paw went through the loop of the strap and yanked the camera from my hands. It smacked firmly onto the driveway. My heart stopped. I picked it up expecting a disaster. There was a tiny (not even half a millimeter) chip in the metal below the grip and a small scuff on the memory card door. That's it. Lens unscathed, body functions normally. Very lucky!

Naw .....Just hitch a ride with a group of Cuban raiders heading south out of Key West....

One thing I have done to cut back on the camera strap from creeping and falling off is to take the lower strap end and tuck it back through the plastic slider leaving about 1/2" or so

My K5 took a fall last summer, the 55-300 took the brunt of the impact and its hood broke - which might have saved everything.
The 55-300 had to be repaired, but the camera's fine.

I have a Lens Loop sling, with a very nice tripod lug, heavy ring and clip on the slider. It was a Kickstarter campaign, but I think they sell retail now.

I would have thought it would be more comfortable to join a tour out of Canada full of Canadians.
