Just a quick update. I finally changed my mind and just ordered a K-3, together with the DA 18-55WR kit lens. And I am really looking forward...
Will soon get the DA 35mm too.
Cheers

I'm another one who went with the K-5IIs instead of a K-3. In fact, I just ordered mine from B&H (via Adam's link) earlier today. I've been pretty lucky with my K-5, which hasn't displayed the worst of the autofocus issues that plague some of the cameras. But I was interested in taking autofocus to the next level and grabbing a bit more resolution. And I have other cameras for video. My Pentaxes are all about still photography. Now, the K-3 is fabulous and has incredible AF but I really don't think I want to deal with 24mp raw files. Eventually, none of us will have any choice, of course. What's more, the K-3 is still priced north of $1000. So, for now, the K-5IIs gives me what I want. And, because of a gift card I had from B&H, my total outlay for the camera body, an extra battery, two SanDisk Extreme 16gb 45mb/sec memory cards and an extended Pentax warranty (for a total of three years) was still just under $700. My K-30 will probably go to my niece, who also has my K200D (still working fine!).

Congrats. However you might want to rethink the zoom lens. I looked carefully at the lens and camera match ups and ratings, that kit lens won't do your K3 justice, you only have to look at the number of them that for sale on eBay. The 35mm might be better to start (I have one, it is very good for the money).

I agree with Mike, vrolok. Perhaps start with the DA 35mm prime or, if you feel you need a zoom, opt for the 18-135 WR or perhaps a used Tamron 17-50 f/2.8.

Congratulations! The 18-135 is a nice step up from the 18-55. And the 35 is sharp and fast, good for low light and when travelling light.

Enjoy!
