Faulty port on K5

So I went to download some images from my 9 month old k5. The camera was not showing up on my Mac - so I pulled the chord out and plugged it back in...and noticed I had to wiggle it to get it to show up on my laptop. It seems like the port on the camera has a lot of play and unless I put pressure on it - it is not connecting. Anyone experience this and is there an easy fix? One work around I thought of was the mini hdmi port - if I could get a cable iwn mini hdmi on one end and hdmi or fire wire on the other?

HDMI isn't for transferring photos, so you have to either use the USB port or a SD card reader (the latter is probably your best bet). The cord could also be to blame- have you tried with a different cord?

+1 for SD Card reader. It will be faster, often built in (my laptop has one), and if not built in they are cheap to buy.
If you have a couple of SD Cards, I find that while reading out images its a good time to swap cards (to cycle between them). People have reported that leaving SD Card door open can lead to more dust in the camera and some say its drains the battery faster.

Yes, you don't want the battery in the camera to go flat when you're transferring images, so use a reader. The usb stick type also mean one less cable in your travel bag.
